-Apparently it was exactly as he was expecting it to go, and Donnie made sure that McRae was eating canvas by the end of it all; as soon as the match was over and he got past the curtain, he fucking ran back to the showers, to try to get most of the grease off his body. It was bad enough he hoped that his oily first victim wasn't so, well, oily, but it was hoping against hope; he needed to clean himself off.
It took two showers to get the residue off. As he finished getting his jeans on, one of the agents came in. Donnie paid no attention, even after making direct eye contact.-
(OCW Agent)
Okay, so you won. Happy with yourself?
)Donnie Harris(
Crowd was bored; so was I. The minute I touched him, I knew I made the mistake of touching him. I'm mostly thankful I watched a match or two of his beforehand; that could have been more embarrassing.
(OCW Agent)
Well you're booked for the next show, just so you're aware. We haven't decided on who just yet, but as soon as we know, you'll know.
)Donnie Harris(
How very gracious of you to consider me important enough to allow me such knowledge of the universe.
-The sarcasm that Donnie used was so obvious that it practically drooled out of him.-
(OCW Agent)
Right. Well, I'm not wasting my time in here.
)Donnie Harris(
Anything else I should know about while I am here?
-The agent shakes his head as Donnie puts on a wife beater, just before draping a button-up collared shirt over his torso, shoving his arms in the sleeves.-
(OCW Agent)
If anything comes up, we'll call you. Don't you worry about that.
-The agent leaves after a nod, as if confirming something in his head. Donnie cocks an eyebrow before zipping up his duffel bag. After a few minutes, he decides to head over to what people in the business call "gorilla position", looking over some shoulders to see some of the action unfolding. No one notices him or says anything, even though, as a new face, it would have been a bit of a shock.-
(??)
Excuse me.
-A woman taps Donnie on the shoulder, and he turns to look to see a woman, about 5'7", trying to get his attention.-
(??)
Who are you exactly?
)Donnie Harris(
Given the oil I had to swim through in the opening match, I'm not too surprised. I'm one of the new signees: Donnie Harris.
(??)
Ah, okay. You faced Rene tonight; I'm sorry.
)Donnie Harris(
Gotta start somewhere, and I got the short stick this time; I'm fine. Just wish I could have flattened his face a bit more for being so lubed up. At least he was showered before coming to the ring. There have been one or two guys I faced in the cage that weren't as friendly.
-The woman grimaces a little bit from the obvious TMI moment.-
(??)
Gee, thanks for the pearl of wisdom.
)Donnie Harris(
Wasn't a pearl of wisdom; it's just how it was in amateur fights: pick a guy, fight the guy, win or lose. There was no real need for regulation, especially underground. In an organization, they were professional enough to clean up, but those unsanctioned fights were brawls.
(??)
Do you know who you have next?
-Donnie shakes his head, looking to the monitors again.-
)Donnie Harris(
I haven't the faintest idea.
(??)
Well you've never really been in front of the camera, right? In any professional sense, I mean?
-Donnie sheepishly nods. Sure he has had interviews, but it wasn't broadcast on an international stage like OCW's.-
)Donnie Harris(
Yeah, that's right.
(??)
Alright, I'll put something together for you, if you're willing to try it out, or at least listen to how it works. That way, you can get used to being in front of the microphone. Sure, be yourself or be a character, but it's all about making sure people remember you.
)Donnie Harris(
Thanks for the tip.
-She pulls a blank card from her pocket and writes a phone number down.-
(??)
Call this person. It's the booker for the territory; they can get you into the Rumble in the Bronx. You may not get a match on the card, but at least you can get booked for the Rumble itself. Battle royal style, which is something you may not be used to: think you can manage?
)Donnie Harris(
Doesn't mean I shouldn't try, right?
-He accepts the card with a nod of thanks.-
)Donnie Harris(
After all, what do I have to lose? If I do well enough, it looks good on me, right?
(??)
Depends on when you come out, which isn't up to you or me; just be ready regardless. The longer you last, the higher your standing jumps. That's usually how it works, and if you want that push, that's the best place to start.
)Donnie Harris(
Which means I need to start really training, shouldn't I?
-She doesn't hesitate to nod in response to the question.-
(??)
What you're doing now with the enhancement talent, it's ideal. You're learning how to move in the ring; you're still too used to the cage fighting style though. You have to learn to move a little bit more and you'll be fine. As for how stiff you are, it's the new style, and your background will allow you to exploit that, like you did against Rene. When you start blending your stiff style, or strong style to others, with the standard fare, you'll be able to do a little bit more in the ring.
)Donnie Harris(
That's the clearest anyone in OCW has spoken to me, and that's saying something.
(??)
You punch people in the head for a living; sometimes the blunt stick is more effective than a fine scalpel.
-Donnie blinks twice, not knowing if he should take that as a compliment.-
)Donnie Harris(
I know what you're saying, and you're right. I'd rather get the straight facts.
(??)
And you're not stupid; you'll settle in fine.
)Donnie Harris(
Well, I will need to do some digging to get ready, including making this phone call. Any suggestions on schools?
(??)
There will be too many to count by this time; I will have to let you do the rest of the work yourself. Getting you more comfortable in front of a camera though? I can pull some strings.
)Donnie Harris(
Cool. Cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool.
-She moves past him and pats him on the shoulder before taking the empty seat at gorilla position and putting a headset on. Donnie says nothing and shrugs, figuring it was about time to go anyway. He had a busy night on the Internet to figure out where he could find a school and effectively start training to be a professional wrestler.-
