OCTOBER 22, 2022
As soon as he stepped out of his red Ford, Axis was greeted by a reporter with a name tag that read San, Charles.
"Axis! Charlie San from Wrestling Daily. Any thoughts on your match tonight?"
Axis was not interested. "Ross Hanson is fast and I didn't think it would come down to a race, okay?"
"What about WrestleVerse closing?"
The reporter continued pressing. "Where are you heading next?"
"I said no comment. Back off."
It had been a rough day. First, he lost a match for the Moonstone, an artifact that allows anyone who holds it to cash in on a champion at any time. Then, his friend, Max Hopper, had lost his title to Addy A- and as if that wasn't bad enough, he learned after the show that WrestleVerse was closing and that he was being sacked.
After all the stress of the day, he was happy to be back at the boarding stables and nearby hotel. He found his horse, Reagan, in the second stall in the barn. "Hey there, Rae!"
Reagan cuddled Axis while he was scratching her neck, and his wife, Miriam, took notice. "Looks like she's back!"
"Yep." Reagan had been in a state of depression ever since her pasture mate, Bucky, was euthanized, but she definitely seemed happier now.
"Cool. Hey, honey?"
"Yeah?"
"That reporter had a point. Which company are you going to?"
Axis immediately had an answer. "I think I'm going to take a few weeks off-"
A voice interrupted him. "Oh, are you?" It was another person. This one didn't have a nametag, but it was clear that he was interested in talking to Axis. "Forgive me for sneaking up on you, but my name is Karl. I work with OCW to recruit new talent and I was wondering if you were interested in joining us."
Axis wasn't fazed. "With all due respect, sir, I don't want to jump right back in to wrestling. So if you'll excuse me..." He turned to walk away.
"What if," Karl replied, "I inserted you into a Rumble? As you know, the winner of the Rumble in the Bronx next month will get a shot at the OCW title. I could put you in."
Axis looked at the man. "Alright, why not."
"Excellent! I will email you the info in the morning. The plan is to put you in a few matches before the Rumble."
As he walked away, Axis turned to Reagan. "You hear that, Rae? I'm heading to OCW!"

I have trained my entire life for this. For the first time, I'm in with a bunch of well-known fighters. It is now, for the first time, a fair fight in the war between me and the world.
Trust me. That Zeus guy has no idea what's coming.
