“All who live possess eternal life, and few would trade it for an immortal body, if they truly understood what it is to be alive” – Audrey Auden
Danny B stands alone, a dark room making up his entire surroundings. A single candle stands tall on a steel perch, allowing enough light to flicker, illumination his face. He’s smiling, an all knowing smile, as if there was something he knew that no one else did.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the time has arrived, finally after what seemed like forever, we stand together again, able to think and breathe as one, able to fight together, able to continue our legacy as one united soul. The Demons of Death have come together once again, this time, not for domination, not for destruction, but to continue our legacy as the most feared team in the history of professional wrestling. Danny B and Anubis stand together again, and this time, the world is ours to take.”
Danny raises his right hand, high into the air, and with a single click of the fingers, the room he stands in bursts into life, candle scones along the walls now flicker with excitement, the combination of a thousand single orange flames give life to their surroundings. Light shines bounces off bronze with an eerie glow as thirty six-feet tall bronze statues of the Egyptian God of passing line to the way to an elaborate marble staircase, the lucky seventeen of which lead to three pewter thrones, the largest in the middle, decorated atop with another Jackals head, whilst the smaller to the side both contain a blade, the left showing an elaborate hilt of gold and a blade of silver, and the right held in buy a garnet plate, holding its blade of emerald strong. Only the central chair holds life, his long silvery hair glinting in the light. He sits with his eyes closed, seemingly at peace with his environment.
“This for you at home is the throne room, imaginatively named of course, there have been days gone by when the great master would stand before his throne, and proclaim his Godly word to thousands that would come to listen, but in this day in age, three of us stand, united as the great forces of this world.”
Danny turns, facing Anubis, staring intently for a moment.
“Right, you think that’s enough of this mystical far de dah? I think the point was made.”
Anubis opens one eye, one of piercing blue, and looks directly at The Ripper.
“I do not believe that I asked you to perform as such.”
“Yeah I know, but it’s kinda our thing.”
“If you so believe.”
“Nice to see you’re the same old miserable git you always were.”
“Time may change, but people do not always follow the same path.”
Anubis stands up from his elaborate throne, his dark robes draping out in front of him, his giant size fully realised, he towers above the room. He looks down at his former protégé, an almost blank look adorning his timed face.
“I hope you understand young Ripper, this time is unlike every other we have come across in our past, the winds have changed, I am no longer the same man I once was.”
“Hang on, you were a man once?”
Ripper drops his jaw in the most comical way he knows how, eliciting no response from his partner. Footsteps break the awkward silence, gentle and light. Jednie comes into view, adorned in jeans and an OCW t-shirt.
“What the fuck are you two doing now?”
“Having a meeting my darling, at least that’s what I think we are supposed to be doing.”
“And you decided to have it here? In the single most boring room in the entire house?”
Danny looks around, she seems to be correct, apart from the thousand candle sconces, and the innate elaborate thrones, very little decoration or distinction adorns this room.
“You know what he’s like.”
“Actually, I don’t.”
“Fair point.”
The two look at each other and smile, Jednie finally reaches the point where her husband stands, and playfully offers her cheek for him to kiss.
“Good, now that you are both here, I would like to discuss the upcoming match that we have been scheduled for.”
Danny turns to look at Anubis, evidently confused.
“We? I thought it was pretty clear that you issued an open challenge.”
“The request seems to have fallen upon deaf ears, we have instead been scheduled for a tag team match, you and I are to face the team of Alice Knight and Brianna Casablancas.”
“Thought for food? Now that is interesting.”
“I believe they stylize it with the number not the word.”
“Yeah, but I’m speaking not typing.”
“Interesting concept.”
“What the fuck are you on about?”
Danny laughs, even Anubis cracks a small smile.
“Yeah OK, but before we start this can we get something to eat? I am fucking starving.”
“Yeah, me too.”
“Very well, cut the camera, we shall convene in the dining room.”
“There’s a fucking camera? I am so not used to this!”
Anubis waves his arm, and the camera cuts.
=============================================================================
The action is re-joined in the dining room of the mansion, as elaborate as the rest of the house. Three people sit around the forty foot marble dining table. The rest of the room is adorned with the most beautiful Chinese romanticism designs. The red velvet wallpaper is patterned with gold dragons and vines. A beautiful chandelier hangs above the table, illumining a wonderful feast of breads, cheeses and meats. The Demons of Death sit, with Anubis at the head of the table in a large throne like chair, flanked by Ripper and Jednie on either side, happily stuffing their faces. The OCW tag team championship sits by Danny’s left hand side, glittering happily in the candlelight.
Anubis sits, crumbs cover his plate beneath him, indicating having had his fill. He watches his cohorts continue to eat, seemingly deep in thought. As they finished he spoke up.
“This first challenge for us is not the easiest you well know.”
Danny looks up from his tag team championship. Looking straight at Anubis.
“You could be fucking skippy there hippy. This is one fucking great challenge for me, and for us. After all Brianna is the Central Champion, considering what was revealed this past week beating a champion will be decent for me.”
Jednie smiles, a very cute and all knowing smile.
“You haven’t watched last week’s show yet have you?”
Danny looks back at his wife, confused as all hell.”
“Not all of it no, it was either watch the show or take part in this meeting, really didn’t have a choice.”
“So you don’t know who’s the last member of operation zero then?”
“Operation who? Oh. You mean Brianna’s team, no why? Am I supposed to give a fuck?”
“Miss Casablancas chose Miss Ryan as her final partner this past week.”
Danny’s jaw legitimately drops this time, he stares between Jednie and Anubis, trying to make sure he heard that correctly.
“Amber joined up with them?”
Jednie nods.
“Well, that does fucking change things, I know we haven’t exactly been talking this week, but my fucking God. Well that does make things even more interesting.”
“Even more, why, was it interesting in the first place?”
Danny sighs, as if preparing for something. He watches as Anubis rises from his chair, and begins to walk away from the table, stopping about ten feet away, he back turned on his cohorts.
“Well, time for your introduction to the great philosopher. Take it away boss.”
Looking a little confused, yet excited Jednie turns towards the unmoving figure of the silver haired giant.
“This battle seems on the surface to be nothing more than one team facing another, with pride and glory on the line. Yet in truth, this small battle constitutes a complex and unevaluated insight into the war to come. If we were to stop and assume that the challenge before us is not coincidental then we may come to understand that this may be a very calculated and dishonest move.
The purest level of deception here is that this past week, as I spoke to the people of the OCW world, I stated, in no brief turns, that I believe the Family is a fallacy, a convoluted group of mismatched miscreants, whose only real bond was the inability to fight on their own, having to resort to deceptive tactics. Take that point and consider that the team that opposes The Family at Total Demolition is led by none other than Miss Casablancas and Miss Knight, our opponents this week at Massacre. This of course leaves young Ripper and I in a predicament. To prove our worth to the people we are expected to be a dominant force, and to eviscerate the competition, however, to do so to this team would be detrimental to the overall health and wellbeing of the company that we all now work for. The upcoming stipulation states that if Miss Casablancas’ team can defeat The Family, then the latter will be no more, forced to split and find their own paths. Now consider the physical attributes going into Massacre, the women that are placed against us are considerably smaller than I, and far more frail. Whether intentionally or not there is a chance, a somewhat large one, that I may hurt either woman, only one week before a match that they must compete in that could very well dictate the future of this company.
Therefore it seems to make sense the outcome of this match is to go one of two ways. Either our opponents become hurt, hindering their chances in the War Games battle, or I am supposed to stay clear and attempt not to assert dominance, meaning that Ripper has to essentially face two very capable competitors essentially on his own. Leaving me to contemplate which is the bigger issue, my partner’s health or the health of the company.
If I choose to not release my full power on these competitors then Ripper could risk wearing himself rather thin before a rather important match himself against Scott Syren. I am not going to go into this theory too much, but it wasn’t that long ago that Mia Stone was due to become part of a group with Mr Syren, and now Miss Stone is fighting alongside Miss Casablancas. I wish no longer to explore this idea, but the gist is fairly self-explanatory.
One more idea to explore, and this one is most important to us as a unit, is that the final member of the team is Miss Ryan. This of course has a direct impact on our own young Ripper, as she is the other half of the tag team champions. As she has decided not to tell us that she was planning on being a part this team, she has decided that this cause is grander than the championship she possess. This of course is an issue to us, but to them also, she has been dealing with a few issues as of late, and I have to believe that she may be challenging us, and young Ripper in particular. I am curious to see what she may be interested in achieving.”
Anubis goes quiet all of a sudden. Leaving the room in an eerie stillness, only the cracking of candle flame sounding in the room. Jednie looks towards her husband, raising an inquisitive eyebrow.
“It used to be worse, believe me!”
Anubis turns back towards the dining table.
“But of course, there is one thing I left out. The simple fact that we are The Demons of Death. That simple fact of that means that we do not give into any kind of pressure or conspiracy, our job, as it has always been, is to prove that there is no greater duo than us, and these days, we stand no longer as a duo, but as a trio. Now, I understand that there is a similarly powerful team in this company, one that could stand alongside us, the bringers of fire, but not stand without it. As long as that team exists as a unit, The Demonic path cannot be truly realized, however, there is no stopping the rise, only the conclusion. That matter will be addressed, in due time.”
Danny and Jednie both look at the gold resting on the marble, fully aware of what the master was referring to.
“Now, with all due respect, I am done here. We shall convene at another time to continue to discuss this matter.”
And with that, Anubis turns on his heels and sweeps out of the dining room.
“Yeah, I’m with him, nap time.”
Jednie leans over the table, kissed Ripper and walks out of the room herself, leaving Danny alone with the championship.
“So, Amber’s with them now is she?”
He leans back in his chair, and raises the gold up above him, staring intently at the name plaque.
“I don’t know what the fuck is up with her at the moment, and frankly, I guess I don’t need to worry right now, but she better get it together for the time we have to defend these things, I’ve had enough idiot partners in the past. Amber and I have come a long way to be on the same page for once, let’s just hope she doesn’t decide to write another chapter.”
Danny stands from the table himself, throwing the belt over his shoulder and walking across the ornate room to one of the giant pane windows. The sun had finally begun to set out over the hundred acre garden that encompasses the mansion, Danny took note of the flowers starting to bloom once again in the garden, rows and rows of pinks, oranges, whites and yellows poking their heads out, trying to reach the spring sunshine, to no avail.
“Fitting really of course, that there is new life blooming in the wild, there is no difference in my life, I am at a whole new chapter. My greatest enemy is my co-champion, my wife and my master have come together to stand by my side for the first time ever, and I am on the praecipes of becoming the greatest star in OCW today. I may not have the greatest record in the company, but when you look at the names on that list, you come to understand that I am a dangerous man to come across. Roach, Mr Unmentionable and Noah Mckenzie, The Danger Boiz and Kenshin Takamura have all fallen to me, and over the next two weeks, I have a chance to really prove everything that I have always said, by beating the Central Champion this week, and the former Internet Champion next week. It’s a tall order, but if anyone can do it, I can.”
Glistening raindrops start to fall in slow motion from the sky, Ripper watches as they fall, orderly and carefully onto the fresh grass, creating slow running bubbles that tickle the blades as they sway. A few hit the window he stares through, creating a streak of transparency as they tumble towards the bottom.
“My biggest worry is that we do too well this week. Anubis and I have the potential to embarrass Thought 4 Food, not because they aren’t great competitors, by fuck they are, but because they aren’t sure what to expect out of the combination and the big man himself. People look at us and see the typical speed and power combination, but it really isn’t like that at all. Anubis and I have had a shaky past, but just as with Amber and I, when we work together, there is nothing that can stop us. The problem I face is worrying whether I am her partner or his, I can’t always be both.”
The now greyed sky starts to erupt with rainfall, causing Ripper to turn away from the glass and face back into the room. He looks around admiring the beauty of it all.
“This could deceive people this place, my wealth and fortune is not the distinction of my character, I grew up fighting on the streets, sleeping in my car and feeding out of trash cans. Yes I have come a long way since then, but I will never forget that. I never will because one thing never changed, I knew I had to be the best, back then, I had to make the cards, impress the promoters, make it big. I scoured through England and the CWF to become this, and I still have the treasured possession I brought with my first American Championship win, my Lamborghini. Yet, I also still have the first gift that I ever brought Jednie, a little stone fairy. Cost me next to nothing, because at the time, that is what I had.
I get at this because I see what can drive people, Alice Knight for one, she is poor, like stricken poor. I can only imagine what she goes through, just trying to make enough money to eat, to pay for gas. She hasn’t got any money for her job, yet she needs her job for money. That kind of insanity has to come with a drive to succeed, there are far seedier and easier ways she could make money, but she doesn’t, she fights kicks and screams to get here, into the OCW and to make her mark.
Brianna of course likes playing with the mind. Getting inside peoples head and figuring them out, it’s the very reason she is probably the best damn wrestler here, because she knows what people are going to do before they do. She is the only two time champion in this company at the moment, and a hell of a force to be reckoned with.
I’m torn, because I wanna beat these two so badly that they cannot get up the next day, it’s a psyche thing for me, to boost me and instil the fear of God into Syren, before I take my rightful place in the main event of Clash at the Coast. But I do not want to give the Family an advantage. So far in my run here, I have beaten a former world champion and a former internet champion, my good luck is bound to continue, but at the expense of the ladies I have to face this week.”
Danny turns himself, heading towards the door.
“Although there is one thing he didn’t think of, if we do crush them this week and they cannot defeat The Family when the time comes, The Family may very well have to face their demons sooner than they think…”
Danny stops dead, and leans over his shoulder to look at the camera.
“The True Demons have been reincarnated, deliverance is now our job. Rip. Tear. Kill.”
Danny B stands alone, a dark room making up his entire surroundings. A single candle stands tall on a steel perch, allowing enough light to flicker, illumination his face. He’s smiling, an all knowing smile, as if there was something he knew that no one else did.
