Massacre Monday 7th April 2014
I stood backstage with a smile on my face as I watched Alice Knight sprawled out motionless in the ring screaming out for “Winston” her eyes seem to widen as she stops the very second Ian Bishop strikes her with a cookie tray which makes her drop to the mat before rolling out of the ring to avoid further attack. The bodies of my new team mates lay beaten, surrounded by The Family and as they circled what was left of team Brianna like vultures, I couldn't have cared less.
It probably wasn't the perfect display of teamwork but I had already shown earlier in the night that I would stand by and fight with these women at the PPV, I had already earlier in the night come to the aid of MJ Bell from an attack, if they wanted to continue to get themselves into a silly little mess by causing unnecessary fights with The Family then that was up to them. I wasn't around purely to save them each and every time they decided to pick a fight and why would I? If nothing else it just went to show just how much they needed me, a hell of a lot more than I needed them.
The whole night had been full of twists and turns, and from the moment she collared me to join I knew it was an opportunity too good to pass up. Brianna was smart and she knew having me onside was a damn sight safer than having me against her. Our paths may not have crossed in the ring, but she was well aware that by promising me a title shot, I would do my utmost to make sure that she left the PPV the same way she walked in, as a fighting champion. But as smart as she was you had to question her intelligence in toying with fire by defending against every member of a group whose common goal was to destroy her. She was either a fucking genius or a fucking lunatic.
She had proved beyond all doubt that she was a champion worthy of holding the biggest prize in the company. But some would just argue that she is yet to face someone good enough to knock her off the top spot. It was clear to everyone that not a single member of The Family was up to the job and as hard as they tried, they just couldn't quite see it through to the end when it came to stripping her of the title.
The music signalling the end of Massacre rang out loudly and suddenly the corridor was full of people chattering away. Some of the passers-by shooting me looks of utter disgust others silently acknowledging my stand against the sickly goodness that oozed from the pores of my new team mates.
“Jesus you would have thought Mia would have helped them...”
My ears pricked up as soon as I heard my name mentioned.
“Yeah just goes to show what she is really like.”
“Ha yeah that chick is a total bit...”
“Oi dickhead you got a problem?”
I shouted out after two stage-hands who hadn't noticed me standing by the curtain. They looked shocked as they stopped in their tracks, whispering nervously to each other as I walked towards them.
“No we were just saying...”
“I heard exactly what you were just saying. So now I am just saying if I were you I would scoot...NOW!”
Nodding nervously they quickly vanished from my sight stumbling over their feet as they left. Chuckling to myself I grabbed my training bag, slinging it over my shoulder. It was an eventful night and for once it was for all the right reasons.
Thursday 11th April 2014 – Starbucks
“And Mia Stone picks up the guy from The Family and throws him to the mat. She grabs another tossing him out of the ring like an old rag doll he hits the floor with a sickening crunch. The first man begins to stir in the ring...”
Jack screamed like he was commentating on the action as he jumped energetically around the sofa tossing aside cushions and wrestling with them, much to the disgust of the people sat drinking overpriced coffee around us.
“SLAM, his head bounces hard. HIS EYES ARE ROLLING TO THE BACK OF HIS HEAD, SOMEONE CALL THE FUCKING MEDIC THIS IS BRUTAL.”
“It really didn't happen like that.”
I cut in which almost broke Jack's concentration, he looked slightly disappointed that his re-enacting was cut short dropping the only surviving cushion to the floor. A couple opposite stood up and left preferring to take their coffees and sit outside in the pouring rain, huddled underneath an umbrella than spend another moment reliving a drunken man’s memory of a horrific sounding assault.
“It did where I was sat.”
“I am amazed you saw anything from the bar...”
“Hey I saw enough. The only reason I came to the stupid show was because you promised me a date with Ana or a kiss from...”
“...The only person you would get a kiss from is Berta and from what I hear even then you would luck out.”
“Wow...Just wow. That is harsh.”
“True”
Jack was yet to actually catch his plane home which somehow managed to leave without him on board three weeks earlier. It was nothing to do with him not actually arriving at the airport on time, and everything to do with him being late. He yet again changed his flight details and was spending what little money he had trying to win more money in the local casino. Most people wouldn't enjoy sleeping on uncomfortable hotel sofas and would long for the luxury of some home comforts, but Jack would openly tell you that a lumpy sofa is a luxury compared to the dives he slept in on his travels. To be fair I was grateful for the company, life on the road is lonely and it was made slightly more bearable having him around.
“You having a slumber party tonight? I hear that Brianna is inviting the team round for pizza, shit movies and face masks.”
“Piss off.”
“Shame, your face might improve with a mask, you could become one of those Mexican wrestlers...but from London.”
He grinned as he noticed the faint traces of a smile creep over my face.
“Ladies and gentlemen take cover I think her face is cracking.”
Pushing his drink towards him, I signalled for him to quieten down as yet again another couple moved away from us tutting in disgust.
“I gotta be honest, you never were much of a team player, which amazes me that you would agree to this.”
“Gotta start making some friends haven't I?”
I smiled sweetly.
“You do know that friends don't go leaving their friends in a pool of their own blood after a gruelling match, don't you?”
“Pffft, define friends.”
Team work wasn't exactly something that I put high up on my CV and the thought of having to rely on a bunch of girlie girls to watch my back was enough to make me think that this could only end in tears. But I knew that if I wanted to see a shot at the Central Title I had to stay true to my word and fight in this ridiculous match, which I would. But in the few days since the announcement of my participation as part of the War Games team I felt like I was in a bit of a bubble where my every move was being watched. Big Brother was clearly keeping a close eye on me, because I was what was better known as a loose cannon and in an attempt to ensure my full cooperation until the very end I was paired up in my first tag match in the OCW against two of the very people I would face at the PPV.
For me I was pretty happy with my partner, MJ Bell was the least offensive member of the team so if I had to start to show some solidarity I was almost glad I would get to do it with her. Alice I was warming to, sure she probably would be more at home licking windows than fighting, but our illustrious leader Brianna was something else entirely. She enjoyed the mind games and took pleasure in finding out what made people tick. Something about her enraged The Family and she constantly took the high road and sat back and watched as they unravelled in front of her.
The Family try to save face and claim to be a united front, but we have all seen how groups like this work. when the classic big egos try to act like a unit, a monumental downfall always follows once the harmony is gone. There is always one person who is over and above everyone else whose movements and actions are big news which supersedes anything and everything that might be going on behind the scenes. There is always one member who feels like they are being overlooked who feel they are the one who no one is really sure why they are there and offers nothing but a number to the team. Not forgetting the individual who doesn't need to be there but the team would be null and void without and finally the delusional one who thinks they are running the group.
“Well it's safe to say with friends like you who needs enemies!”
“Erm lets not forget I did help earlier in the night. And anyway I was practically out of the building when they were jumped. It was too late there was nothing I could have done.”
I winked at Jack, who just shook his head.
“Just don't cut your nose off to spite your face. You might realise that you need them, especially now whether you like it or not you are part of the team. Those guys will be looking for a bit of revenge on you. No one likes to be shown up, especially by someone on their own. You are on their radar now so having a couple of people to watch your back isn't such a bad thing.”
“Is that a bit of concern I hear in your voice?”
“I very much doubt it. I just think you need to at least try getting on with them. It will be work it in the long run, I know you are a bit socially retarded, but you know, try being...nice.”
“Nice? I am not sure I have heard of that word before, can you use it in a sentence?”
“It's nice to see OCW helping the community by letting special people like you in the fed. It's right next to being kind.”
“No sorry you have lost me...come on, next you will be expecting me to be pleasant to people.”
“I didn't think you knew what being pleasant was!”
“I don't, I read about it once in a book.”
“Jesus you can read?!”
Jack feigned a shocked look.
“I even learnt to write my own name.”
I grinned proudly.
“These guys won't be a push over Mia. It's serious, things are about to change for you and it will start with this tag. I mean you don't even know who the other person is you are fighting yet.”
“It will be some nobody.”
“It might be a somebody. A somebody that you can't even think about before hand, as you might not even know who it is until that bell rings.”
“That's how I like it. The element of surprise makes any match far more exciting.”
“Surprise might but shock won't. Especially if it a former OCW member. You said yourself the rumours going around backstage could mean the fifth member is not necessarily someone currently on the roster.”
I never would tell him, but Jack was right. It still remains to be seen who will join Roach in the ring, but then realistically it really doesn't matter. Its not exactly like he or the family have had much luck facing off against the female members of the roster lately and the sooner that Roach realises that hanging around with the Village People isn't going to propel him to new heights the better. He is one of those guys that strikes me as an little fish in a big pond, held back from ever reaching his true potential due to the others that believe that the world owes them something. For now he is happily enjoying the attention while it is showered upon him as they stand powerful, but deep down he knows he will be the first to be ostracised when the going gets tough. Roach is too good for The Family and they know it, but they won't just let him walk away because they know the value that he brings. But then again who am I to question another persons actions, if he is happy to live in the shadows never standing on his own then fair play to him.
But the real fun point of this match is trying to figure out what are we to expect from his mystery partner? Should we imagine that this enigma known as member number five is a loud mouthed show off like the rest of the team, or will we be surprised when someone with an ounce of sense comes out like Richard or Kenshin. We can strike off members of the newly formed Operation Zero, Danny B and Amber Ryan are out of the equation as the Tag Champions will more than likely have their own titles to defend, so where is the new member going to appear from? Are we all being fooled by a silent fighter watching from the sidelines? Are we all going to be shocked when member number five turns out to be a well loved blast from the past, or will it be a giant let down, just like the team have been so far, falling short at the opportunities laid out before them.
Everyone is laughing in the locker rooms at the shambles The Family made of attempting to take the Central Title from the hands of Brianna. Not one of them able to legitimately take the title off her to bring it home, so its easy to see why a pre PPV tag match wouldn't leave anyone shaking in their boots regardless of who decides to turn up to the ring. The Family need to prepare themselves for life after a Total Demolition loss. At the moment its all smiles, slightly too close for comfort hugs and high fives, but what will happen to the team if they don't win. How will a loss affect the boys then? Who will be the member to foot the blame?
My bet is Roach.
The member of the team who from the outside is already being placed to shoulder the responsibility should The Family fall short of their promises to win at Total Demolition. It's clear to see the divide in camp already happening and as each member failed to take down Brianna the tension grew and grew. No one needs to really rid the fed of The Family as the self destruct button has already been pressed.
My phone started to vibrate bouncing across the table as my ringtone began to play out loudly. Picking it up I quickly silenced it after seeing Brianna's name yet again appear on the screen.
“Think I will just let that call go to voice mail.”
“That must be the fourth call today? She really wants to get hold of you Mia.”
“Yeah, to give me another lecture I am sure. I will call her back later.”
“Really?”
“Na probably not. I don't think I could possibly listen to any more of her team work pep talks at least for today. She is like a Duracell bunny, she just doesn't stop.”
Jack gave me a look, which without him even having to say anything backed up everything he has said earlier. I knew I had to give the team a chance and join in. This was going to give me the opportunity to firmly put my name on everyone's lips and all going well earn me a shot a the big title, but I never said I was going to enjoy it. Apart from the part where we rip The Family apart, I was pretty sure that, that part I would firmly enjoy.
“I know this is a good chance for me, you don't need to worry so much. You sound like my mother.”
BEEP BEEP, my phone went off again, it felt like it had being ringing none stop since Massacre. I didn't even need to look to know the message was off Captain Sensible herself. I reluctantly picked it up, knowing at least by text I didn't have to actually speak to her.
“Mia, it's incredibly important that you realise the significance of working as a team. I suggest you and MJ meet up before next Monday. --- Brianna.”
Blah, blah, blah. Even in her text messages she sounded like she needed someone to remove that sick that is shoved firmly up her arse. I had to admit as much as I enjoyed watching the family wipe the floor with her, I felt a little bit of guilt allowing MJ and Alice take a beating for Brianna. Don't get me wrong as soon as I felt that little bit of guilt and thought about something else, I was fine and as long as MJ didn't want to go feed sick animals or wash the homeless I was happy to hang out with her. How bad could it be right?
I stood backstage with a smile on my face as I watched Alice Knight sprawled out motionless in the ring screaming out for “Winston” her eyes seem to widen as she stops the very second Ian Bishop strikes her with a cookie tray which makes her drop to the mat before rolling out of the ring to avoid further attack.
