Crotus Prenn Disturbed Ward
Disturbed Ward
“Wait for it… 3… 2… NOW!”
With all her might, Victoria Strader comes crashing through the red and black door of the locker she was hiding in and stuns THE SUPREME MACHINE! Vee comes around the corner when she can hear the roar and growl of her cousin coming for her when she makes a sudden horror movie “no-no” decision to go upstairs. The hum of the fully repaired generator covers the sound of her heavy breathing as she hides behind a pile of trash. The most unsettling thing about this world she found herself in was how she could hear AND feel her heartbeat of SuMa thumping in her chest, filling her ears.
THUMPTHUMP. THUMPTHUMP.
The Supreme Machine was close. The monstrous man appears even scarier in this world as the veins in his biceps and forearms beat with the flow of blood. His long crazy hair only allowed his evil to scan the area in stealth. He stalks over to the generator, kicking it in anger. Victoria has her hands over her mouth, keeping in the sounds of fright, as she slowly turns around and peaks through a space between the trash pile.
She watches him kick the generator again before leaving the area. She begins to move because the Entity would have ravens circle above a survivor, letting the killer know where they were if still for too long. It was now she was grateful she learned the skill of walking faster without causing noise. She didn’t understand the science behind it, but in this world, realm, whatever it is, it didn’t work like the real one.
She wasn’t the only one who learned skills in this place as Supreme Machine stood absolutely still, causing her not to be able to feel or hear the heartbeat signalling he was close. As she turned the corner, she was met with a growl.
“WE WILL FEED YOU YOUR EYES!!”
Victoria stumbles as the massive fists slammed down on her back, sending her forward a few feet, now hurt, and it would only take one more to lay her out so he could pick her up and hook her on the sacrificial hooks scattered throughout the map. Or even worse, kill her if the monster offered the Entity a special offering called a Mori, allowing him to kill them instead. It did the same thing a sacrifice would do but was much more painful, and as the other survivors she encountered had told her, it stayed with you.
Victoria grunts in pain as she leaves a trail of blood as she leaps from the third story of Crotus Prenn Asylum’s Disturbed Ward. She takes off in a full sprint, but the exhaustion had kicked in a few seconds later, and she knew she needed to heal to give her a better chance of survival. She looked at the watch she was wearing, which acted like a SmartWatch which told the survivors the generator countdown and how many of them were left. Meg had been sacrificed, and David was gone as well. Only one generator left to repair. It was just her and someone she never predicted to be left alone within this weird place.
“Where is Veronica?”
Victoria sees a treasure chest hidden in what was called the killer shack. The lore was this is where the killer resided and looked after the sacrificial hooks in the basement. It was the most difficult place to escape, with the exit so narrow it made it near impossible to get by if the Killer was there or on the stairs leading up. Victoria looked around; no warning signs SuMa was coming, so she crouched and walked down the stairs, mindful of her surroundings. She reaches the bottom and turns to the left to see the four hooks stemming out of the massive post that went floor to ceiling. She walks by them as the sounds of past survivors' screams silently echo throughout the room.
“Thank god, it hasn’t been searched yet.”
She begins the process of picking the lock, all the while begging for a med-kit to be in it. It clicks open, and the red med-kit shines up at her as she breathes a sigh of relief. A puddle of blood was forming under her, and her grunts of pain were anything but quiet. She grabs, but since it’s only a basic one, she is able to fully heal herself but couldn’t do anything more with it.
THUMPTHUMP! THUMPTHUMP!
Victoria can feel and hear the beast coming as she quickly, yet silently, gets up the stairs outside of the Killer’s Shack when she realizes it’s not her SuMa is in pursuit of: It’s Veronica.
“What is she doing?”
Victoria crouches and finds shelter behind one of the many random walls constructed around the area and carefully avoids the crows waiting to take off and alert the enemy of her position. SuMa is in hot pursuit of Ronnie as she weaves in and out of blockades in her way and is getting closer to Victoria’s position. Victoria can hear a generator had started being repaired in the near distance, two of the eight pistons firing up. She scans the area around her but looks up for the lights that are attached to the generator that are up high in the air. She remembered Meg Thomas telling her:
“When in doubt, look up and out. The lights will show you where the generators lay.”
Veronica seems to be infuriating him as Victoria hears a loud smack and a grunt of anger from the monster as Ronnie drops a pallet down on his head. While he is stunned, Ronnie is able to escape the chase as SuMa shatters the pallet into pieces with a vicious stomp of his right foot.
“Wow, she’s a natural at this.”
Victoria steps towards the generator and realizes it’s on her to power those exit gates. Victoria had some basic mechanical skills her grandfather had taught her when he showed her how to ride motorcycles; if she ever got into a spot on the side of the road she was ok, but this was different. It felt… automatic. Like she and every other survivor were suddenly matrix’d the skills to repair them. Her hands moved in and out of the internal parts, twisting wires together; now, the third and fourth piston is firing with the first two.
CH-CH-CH-CH-CH!
To her surprise, the fifth and sixth pistons fire up along with the others. Victoria looks to the ignition section and sees Veronica working on the wiring. She looks to Victoria and smiles.
“What? Expect the redhead? She’s already back at the campfire,” Ronnie says to her ‘twin’ with a quiet laugh.
“Last person I expected to help me out,” she fires back, connecting a series of wires as the seventh piston fires up. They are getting close.
“Person, huh? Didn’t expect you to call me that.”
Vee looks over at Ronnie with a quiet scoff. She’s right.
“Ronnie… she’s different here. Why? I’m still the same.”
BONGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
The horn blows, and the sound of a siren rings throughout the area as the ‘twins’ finish repairing the last generator. Vee and Ronnie look at their SmartWatches which directs them to the exits. They begin to move quickly, but rushing as running in this environment leaves a trail for whoever the killer may be, so they took a lesson in the art of crouching and speed walking from Nea Karlson.
THUMPTHUMP! THUMPTHUMP!
“Fuck, he’s coming. We have to hurry.”
“I thought you were buddies? Didn’t you get him back into OCW?”
Ronnie raises her brow and tilts her head with a turn, followed by a shrug.
“Yeah, that isn’t Supreme Machine, at least not the one we know. Just a manifestation. The Raven is the one we need to worry about.”
Vee looks at Ronnie, her brow raised this time. Ronnie shakes her head.
“I’ll explain when we get out of here.”
“If we get out of here,” she snaps back.
Ronnie stops and grabs Vee by the shoulders, looking into her eyes. Victoria can’t help but notice the flickering flames behind their matching glasz coloured eyes isn’t the same; the aura of Hell isn’t there anymore.
“Stop it. This is why I took over, ya know? This disbelief you have in yourself. I need the Vee that finished the match at Access Denied against Dylan. The one that emerged from the rubble of that shitty porch and crawled her way to victory, goddamnit! You understand?!”
“Shit… she’s right.”
“Of course I am right, now let's go. He’s getting closer,” she says, reading Vee’s mind without being inside it. It was a weird feeling for the both of them to be separated, yet together like they are now.
THUMPTHUMP! THUMPTHUMP!
Ronnie holds her arm out to the side to stop Vee as she nods forward to the large looming double-doors with an electrical panel with an old school double lever that lifts up or down, with three red lights above it. Supreme Machine is at the door, looking around. He tilts his head and turns around, looking in all the directions they could be coming from. However, he doesn’t see them… yet.
“Ok, when he moves from the exit, get to that panel and start the process,” Vee says, making Ronnie scrunch her face, wrinkling her nose.
“Wait, what are you gonna do?”
“Believing in myself.”
Victoria runs out from the side, waving her arms at the monster that’s in the shape of her Cousin Dearest. He scowls at her when he sees her. He looks meaner than the real one.
“Hey you big dumb oaf! I had your theme music changed to Land of 1000 Dances. Can you do the mashed potato?!”
Victoria gives him the big ol’double middle finger salute and begins hightailing it away as he begins his chase.
“Come on ya big dummy! Can’t you catch the ponytail?” she yells at him as he starts to shorten the distance.
Ronnie shakes her head but also smiles.
“Now that’s insane… and exactly what I am talking about.”
She makes a dash for the door and the panel. Both hands grasp onto the lever pulling it down, sending power to open the exit gate. The first red light pops on.
Meanwhile, Victoria vaults through an opening through the wall of a building in pieces. Supreme Machine circles around, and in an instant, he is stunned.
THWACK!
Victoria dropped a pallet on his head for the second time this round, and he is furious. The visceral growl and frustrated yell from deep inside the big bastard, it startles the crows, and a cold wind of death comes through, which Victoria can feel all the way to her toes. She begins to run, and a sound of heaven echos throughout the place. The buzzer sound never sounded so good as SuMa gained ground, his mangled mouth almost drooling in anticipation of hearing her screams as he hooked her and served her soul to The Entity.
Ronnie almost has the doors open when she sees Vee making a mad dash for the door and jumps up a little bit in excitement as the doors are open. On the verge of passing through the first set of doors to the gate only survivors could run through, Vee just about gets past Ronnie when the giant bear claw that belongs to Supreme Machine starts to come down on her.
B-B-BANG! B-B-BANG!
Ronnie laughs when the firecrackers (ones that Meg left her before SuMa hooked and sacrificed her) work and stops the big machine in his tracks, blinded and deafened for only a few seconds but just long enough so that he comes out of it watching the backside of the Strader ‘twins’ escape from his clutches. She scoops Vee under her right shoulder, wrapping her arm around and gripping onto her waist and does precisely that: escape. They share a look at what looks to be walls coming down.
Later by the campfire where they sit, fueling themselves to do what they would do again tomorrow, in relative silence (outside of Kate Denson on her guitar), Ronnie finally breaks the silence. It was a vicious cycle and about to make it more interesting working together.
“We are gonna survive this. I know what’s behind this, Vee. We need a game plan, like yesterday.”
Victoria scoffs and chuckles as she answers.
“Yeah, yesterday or tomorrow don’t exist in this place. What’s even weirder is that I feel like am doing something outside of this, ya know?”
“That’s my point. The Raven is coming soon. I know it, feel it, and it wants us both.”
Vee shakes her head slightly.
“Of course it does. So how do we defeat it and make sure it’s at least one of us getting our belt back?”
Odd to be thinking about wrestling while going through all of this, but it helped them anchor themselves to get through it. Some might even have another reason in the form of Outcast, the young Sam Elliot of OCW, who knows?
“Yes, we will. Now, like I already told you, we need to work together. Whoever emerges at the end will get it done, but we need to emerge to do it.”
Vee looks up, and they share a sneer.
“As long we aren’t dead by daylight, The Lost Stranger stands no chance.”
