Pryde before the fall, yes, pun intended.
It was almost surreal because the three letters O... C... W... Had been synonymous with the name Drew Stevenson. They went together like peanut butter and jelly, or well, back in 2005 with the other OCW that was anyway. Many felt that it would be like déjà vu, that everything would just click in place but it wasn’t the same around here and part of that problem was that his former “partner” if you wanted to call him that just couldn’t seem to put his dick in his pants long enough to be a tag partner. Instead, he wanted to fight Drew at every turn and that cost the team heavily but thankfully; he was solo now and didn’t have to carry around Payne like a sickly little child – thank you sweet baby Jesus.

With our scene opening slowly, we opened up on an emptied ring. It looks incredibly old, worn, tattered and yet it has so much history. They say that there is always a pride before the fall for all great competitors and that seems to hold true but in this case; literally. You see, Pryde, current OCW Superstar and Southern Champion has been on a rampage through the OCW managing to muster up a perfect, undefeated record and turning heads while doing so. Now you see, one of those defeats for Stevenson came at the hands of Pryde and Mario in the tag match but this week was different because he would either live by the sword or die by the sword but regardless? At least it would be of his own accord instead of his partner.
Now hold the phone, there was also Richard in this match – the proverbial third wheel looking to start a comeback after his rather unfortunate luck as of late. Sitting on the edge of the apron kicking his feet out was Drew Stevenson who has his head lowered and his mind racing like you wouldn’t believe. With his hands placed down on the canvas beside him, he knows that the cameras are rolling live but he doesn’t start this promo off by staring into the lens of the camera as if staring at Pryde or Richard directly.
Drew, “The term pride before the fall was always one that I found interesting. You hear it a lot, especially in our business and you try not to be the next victim of its wrath but sometimes that becomes the biggest task that you have to achieve. Many believe that my proverbial fall began with the loss to Pryde and Mario in that huge tag team match and I have to disagree on that. You see, yeah, our team lost and I take nothing away from Mario and Pryde because Payne and I just couldn’t get along good enough to make it work but in singles competition? I am undefeated!”
Pausing, he brings his head up looking into the camera now. The look expressed along his face shows just how determined that he is heading into this match-up, a match that he needs to win at that. Continuing to speak, his voice lightly echoes and trails off.
Drew, “You see, that says something, that tells the people here in the OCW that when I’m not having to carry around three hundred plus pounds of extra weight? Well, I get the job done and everybody will learn just that this week at Massacre. You see, we have the current reigning Southern Champion looking to shoot down any prospect challengers and we have the unfortunate Richard who just can’t catch a break lately and unfortunately for you Richard that isn’t going to stop this week.”
Drew shakes his head, “Oh no, you are currently on a losing streak and man, that really sucks for you – I feel bad for you but not bad enough that it will prevent me from stepping into that ring and making you tap that canvas. I admit that you have potential man, you really do but if I walk out of this match as the winner and having put a blemish on that perfect record of Pryde’s then that will put me in a great position at receiving a future shot at the Southern Championship; a title that I plan on RIPPING right out of his grasp when the opportunity presents itself. Are you willing to say the same Richard? Can you tell all of these people that you will go out to that ring, beat me or Pryde down and seize the day as your own? Maybe you can tell them that but can you say it with conviction? See, that’s where I doubt that you can because I think that deep down? You are giving yourself a lot of hell over your recent losses and those losses will only continue to add up – especially when you’re in the ring against me because my future depends on such a win.”
Nodding his head, he continues to speak.
Drew, “See, I can admit that this match means a lot for me because it’s the truth. Pryde is the Southern Champion, you are highly determined to pick up the win to get back in the hunt for things around here and here I am in a predicament where it’s fight or flight for me and you better believe that I will come out swinging, guns a blazing and willing to do ANYTHING in my power to make sure that I walk out of Massacre as the winner – can you say the same? I think that you can Richard but you Pryde? I don’t think you can, especially when your title isn’t on the line. Yeah, I’m saying it for the world to hear because all you have to fight for in this match is that undefeated streak that you have going and I’ll admit that it’s impressive, very as a matter of fact because the talent here in OCW is nothing short of amazing and here you are flawless but all that changes at Massacre this week when I walk out as the winner and one step closer to facing you for that Southern Championship.”
Hopping down off of the ring apron and landing on the cold concrete floor below him; he takes in a deep breath of the dingy, musty air. After all, it was considered home to him back years ago as his grandfather used to run this gym where he would train wrestlers.
Drew, “Pryde, keep that belt nice and shiny because after this week? There will be no denying who is the number one contender at that title. It will be and for you, well, it will be the true meaning of the Pryde before the hall and yes, pun intended.”
Flashing that Stevenson smirk, he turns around walking off to exit the old family gym. With that, we cut to static.
Fade.
