Happy Saturday, OCW friends and fanatics! Hope you all have a big, fun day planned! I know I do! Before I head out and spend the day partying with friends...I thought I’d break down the first FOUR Mix matches that are expected to air THIS Wednesday on Piledriver!
Four matches featuring eight teams comprised of SIXTEEN talented wrestlers. All of whom compete WITHOUT an OCW contract.
The prize? A singles match for a title shot...OR, a Tag Team Title shot against Them No Good Bastards. Both options would take place in the ring at Under the Lights in Odessa, Texas on September 6th.
Who will win? Who are the favorites? Who are the underdogs? Which unknowns will rise, making a name for themselves in the MIX? We’re going to find out as OCW MIXES it up throughout the month of August!
So, let’s get started…
1) Brett Daniels & Chris Madison vs. Giovanni Santana & Lily Lopez
Madison and Daniels clock in tied with Themis and Fury as the second odds-on-favorite to win the entire Mix. These odds are likely stacked upon the back of Chris Madison and the success he’s had throughout his pro wrestling career. His partner, Brett Daniels, is no slouch, either. Daniels has been a strong supporter of OCW and, I’m told, has remained a talent on OCW’s shortlist for potential hires. The combination of Madison and Daniels is sure to be a potent one. Facing them is the team of ‘Cholo’ Santana and Lily Lopez. Cholo is relatively new to the pro wrestling business but he’s already made a massive impact, finishing as the runner up in the QuagCup. The talent is there. Could Cholo pull the upset off, pinning either Madison or Daniels and advancing into the second round? Well, that’s going to weigh greatly upon the shoulders of his partner Lily Lopez. Since registering for the Mix, Lopez has been rather quiet. Is she the strong silent type or will she falter, bringing Cholo down with her? We’ll find out this Wednesday!
2) Tara Fenix & Victor Malvado vs. David Barker & Vicky Stone
I’m REALLY excited about this one! I’ve been a fan of Vicky Stone for years! Her union with ‘Dadbod’ seems to be a perfect match! I expect these two will work cohesively as a team...something that will be a problem for a lot of pairings in this Mix. Tara Fenix came out strong, letting OCW know she is determined to make an impact in the Mix. She’s a force, no doubt. Her partner, Victor Malvado excels at tag wrestling. But, how will he fare teaming WITHOUT his brother? Can the Malvados remain focused or will some type of separation anxiety halt their potential for success? It appears Tara Fenix is the most talented competitor in this match...meanwhile Barker and Stone look to be a perfect fit...so it all boils down to Malvado. Can Malvado work with Fenix at a high enough level to prevail? We’ll get our answer on Wednesday!
3) Talia Areano & Iraq Nid vs. Bradley Carrington & Bianca McBride
Iraq Nid might have been the biggest ‘unknown’ in the entire field. BUT, a lot was revealed about the ‘Sand Spider’ a few days ago when he dropped a promo for the Mix. He appears to be legit. Nid teams with Talia Areano...Talia is a veteran of pro wrestling, and OCW. Areano has joined OCW on more than one occasion, making a brief impact before quietly leaving the promotion due to personal reasons. Areano is talented. And, she appears focused. Is this Talia’s chance to leave a lasting impact on OCW and its fans? Carrington and McBride received something of a Catch 22 earlier this week when the OCW Sportsbook named them the favorite to win the tournament. An honor, sure. But it also places a rather large target on their backs. This ranking comes largely due to the fact Carrington is an OCW veteran who was very successful during his run in the promotion a few years ago. It also doesn’t hurt that McBride appears to be a very formidable and talented competitor who is focused on success. These two look to back up that ranking with a strong first round showing...it’ll be up to Talia to help Iraq if they want to pull the upset in the first round.
4) Ricky Rodriguez & Sebastian Grey vs. Father Thyme & Billy Young
The LOUDEST match thus far in the Mix. Two of the four competitors have already verbally expressed their thoughts on the Mix and their first round opponents. Billy Young came out shooting, which makes sense for a man referred to as ‘The Bullet’. He’s serious and he’s focused. He’s also teaming with Father Thyme. Father Thyme is a lot of things...but, a successful in-ring pro wrestler...well, ehhhh. Let’s just say he’s had his ups and downs. He returns after mysteriously vanishing over a year ago. The talent is there. The man is unique and he is marketable. He’ll need to hold up his end of the bargain if his team hopes to have a shot at escaping the first round. GM Who’Re has been enamored with Sebastian Grey since OCW reopened and we finally saw why. The Modern-day Adonis doesn’t mince words and is very confident in his abilities. And why shouldn’t he be? Grey went the ‘mystery’ route in an effort to enhance the eventual announcement of his inclusion. And, I’d say it worked. He’s teaming with Ricky Rodriguez...a name most OCW fans should be familiar with, especially if they follow twitter. Rodriguez is talented. He’s energetic and he’s excited to be in the Mix. This is going to be a tough team to defeat. Can’t wait to watch them on Wednesday!
My predictions? Yikes.
It’s really too close to call. Too much left to be said and revealed.
Will these teams work together? Will they get along?
The Mix is about more than individual talent. I don’t care how talented you are...if your partner gets fed up and leaves you out to dry...you aren’t advancing. A scenario that could very likely happen.
Sixteen world class competitors will enter the OCW Arena on Wednesday hoping to gel with their partner and advance into the second round. After Wednesday, 32 will be down to 24 as 8 wrestlers will be sent packing.
We’re right on the precipice...enjoy it while its here because, like day drinking at a beach bar, once this gets started, time will fly by.
Alright...I’d better wrap this up and meet my friends for fun activities! Catch you guys later!
