March 24, FL, Room 237, 5:25 PM.
The typical day of rest and relaxation had be interrupted with training. MJ had dragged Melissa out of bed early to go run around the whole hotel before the two escaped to the theme parks. For once, MJ had fun without training the whole day, sort of. The two of them had been on almost every ride and repeated the roller coasters. By the time the two had entered back into the room Melissa's whole body ached and she was exhausted. It had been an amazing way to spend the day though.
Melissa huffed and blew some of her auburn hair away from her face. Her head was in MJ's lap as the two of them sat against the wall of their hotel room. They hadn't spoken in a while but they listened to the music on MJ's phone until it finally died. It being absolutely quiet in the room made her uncomfortable because it meant that the two of them were wrapped up in thoughts. Happy thoughts always lead to depressing in a matter of seconds.
Melissa Reed: “Sing.”
MJ Bell: “Right now, really?”
Melissa Reed: “Please? I haven't heard you sing in forever and maybe it'll put me to sleep. I'm so tired.”
MJ sighed as she combed her fingers through her friend's hair. Melissa's eyes closed as she waited for MJ to begin singing. When she did, Melissa just smiled because there was such a gentle quality to MJ's singing voice. A certain boldness that wasn't like her character but it fit her. MJ's head leaned back against the wall as she sang.
“It's a little bit funny this feeling inside. I'm not one of those who can easily hide. I don't have much money but boy if I did. I'd buy a big house where we both could live.”
Melissa stared up at the ceiling to allow her mind to grow blank. That was easier said than done because her thoughts continued. This had always been one of her favorite songs. Love songs were so pure and they were so simple to relate to. She had never been the type to fall in love but the songs were prefect. The could give someone hope to find something as wonderful.
“So excuse me forgetting but these things I do. See I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue. Anyway the thing is what I really mean. Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen.”
The upcoming match would be easier than the first match she had been in. It was a guy who was on a losing streak... Sadly that was the only information Melissa had dug up. She wasn't concerned about the match even though it was against her better judgment. She had made it a personal policy to not underestimate anyone. However, it was hard to take what she had heard about Richard seriously. He was a true newbie to the business still trying to prove something.
“And you can tell everybody, this is your song. It may be quite simple but now that it's done. I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind. That I put down in words how wonderful life is now you're in the world .”
Melissa couldn't turn her nose up at him because she had performed sloppy the first match she had been in. She had been out of the ring for months and it painfully showed. Melissa could fight dirty when she needed to or when it would get a huge reaction from the crowd but the last match had been out of fear. Regardless of those efforts she ended up with the loss. One win and two losses. It had been frustrating. The next time she was in the ring it would be different.
“If I was a sculptor but then again no, or girl who makes potions in a traveling show. I know it's not much but it's the best I can do. my gift is my song and this one's for you.”
Her eyes traced back up to see MJ's face. Her expression was so exhausted and sad. Even though it was a love song it seemed to be depressing MJ as she sung the beautiful tone. Her voice was so haunting, soft and low. Melissa frowned to see her friend in such an odd state. MJ's head tipped back against the wall, eyes closed. Her hand reached up to poke against her friend's cheek as an attempt to snap her out of it but MJ continued to sing.
“And you can tell everybody, this is your song. It may be quite simple but now that it's done. I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind. That I put down in words how wonderful life is now you're in the world .”
Silence filled the room when the song ended. Melissa released a loud sigh to break the tension but when MJ's eyes opened up they expressed such sadness and confusion. It caused a physical wince to break through her body. Had it been such a pain to sing the song? What was her friend thinking?
Melissa Reed: “That was beautiful but I'm sorry if it upset you.”
MJ Bell: “No, I just... I have a lot on my mind. It wasn't the song. I love that song. I know this is stupid but I've always wanted to sing that to someone I loved.”
Melissa Reed: “Sing it to Ian. You know, since you and Kenshin are 'just friends'.”
With that simple tease she was flipped from MJ's lap onto her stomach. It was so obvious that Kenshin and MJ of them had feelings for each other but it was torture to get a confession. One day though they would kiss and fireworks would go off or maybe not. MJ was so stubborn with men these days. She couldn't just admit when she had feelings for them but she had always been that way.
MJ Bell: “I'm going to pack my stuff.”
Melissa Reed: “Oh, right, you are going home. Will you be back for Massacre?”
MJ Bell: “Of course.”
There with a long sigh from Melissa again as she just watched MJ packed up her things. Everything became quiet again, well, aside from texts to Melissa's phone. The random beeps continued to make it buzz in her pocket. Finally she pulled it out to check it. Typical texts from the normal people. She smirked at a certain reply she had received from Beck. It made her squirm. He was such a damn tease but she enjoyed that quality. It made the back and forth deliciously entertaining. As she typed back a reply MJ spoke up.
“How do you feel about facing Richard? Are you planning out one of those amazing promos?”
Melissa Reed: “I feel like I need to beat him and no, not this week. I want to enjoy the little time I have left here with my crazy friends.”
MJ Bell: “You do need to win. So far you aren't doing very well.”
She teased with a smirk of her own but it went unnoticed because Melissa was on her stomach, smirking at her phone. Beck and her were in a dirty back and forth that made her giggle up a storm.
“Mel?”
Melissa Reed: “Screw you. I won one of those!”
As a response she threw her phone at MJ but she side stepped so it ended up somewhere on the floor. Before Melissa could get up MJ had picked up her phone then coughed. It wasn't because she had something stuck in her throat either, it was more of that awkward cough.
“Did I just get a picture message?”
Her friend's eyes were glued to the screen which sort of answered her question. She scrambled up to check whatever it was that Beck or someone else sent. It was just a simple shot of Beck, nothing big or nude.
MJ Bell: “So, that is the famous Beck, huh?”
Melissa Reed: “Gorgeous isn't he? You should see the rest of him. Ugh, he is... Amazing. Not in the sense that he has a heart but more of he knows how to work his hips and--”
There was a quick slap to the back of her head by MJ. Why? No idea but she rubbed it and turned to her fury haired friend with a scowl. It was met with an annoying look of disapproval.
“What the F?!”
MJ Bell: “You need to focus on your match and not the play boy horse or whatever you call him.”
Melissa Reed: “Horse... Really, sweetness, horse?”
MJ Bell: “I'm being serious. If you lose this match I am going to start training like you are in the military and I'm not even sure how they train..”
Melissa Reed: “I am going to focus. I promise. It's not like I can go fuck him anyways.”
MJ Bell: “That is a blessing right now.”
Melissa Reed: “Yeah, blessing. You are such a spoil sport.”
MJ Bell: “Only with you. I like to keep you on point.”
MJ tossed her phone over which was tossed to bed. Unfortunately, the red head had a very good point. If she lost it would mean that she was more than just rusty. She didn't join OCW to be viewed as a jobber or MJ's minion or a goofy clown. She would be a threat. Failure was never an option. As one returned to packing the other wandered into the bathroom to take a needed shower.
March 25- Green Ford Focus, Airport, 4:34 AM.
Four cups of coffee kept Melissa alert enough to drive MJ to the airport. Her eyes were locked on the road and there were a few times that MJ had to take over because Melissa swerved in her lane. It was clear which one of them were the better driver even if they disagreed on who it was. The radio was on and the two of them sang along to the 'hottest hits' but ever so often did MJ have to point out that the song had little meaning and was just a bunch of background noise. Not that they disagreed on that. When a 'background noise' song came on she turned it down so they could hold an actual conversation.
Melissa Reed: “I seriously hate this song...”
MJ Bell: “Mhm. It's a terrible song. I hate that it's so catchy.”
Melissa Reed: “Right?”
She took another gulp from her newest cup of joe before she tossed the empty cup into the back with the others. Aside from the piling coffee cups her car was spotless. MJ relaxed back in the seat and stared out the window.
MJ Bell: “So, what do you think about Richard now?”
Melissa Reed: “After what you told me... He sounds like he's still getting his feet wet. He is a true rookie to wrestling. I'll give him credit when it's due but that isn't much. That doesn't mean that I don't think he MIGHT be a threat but as of right now I'm not too worried about him. He'll get into that ring with Harlequin and I'll come out the winner. Richard won't be able to write a decent rap after I'm done with him.”
MJ Bell: “Good to hear.”
Melissa Reed: “I'm going to take this seriously from now on. Clowning around was fun for that short period but I'm not here to be a jester to the crowd. I'm also not here to just be your minion either, sweetness. I love you and I'll have your back when it gets rough but I can't be your back up all the time.”
MJ Bell: “I don't expect you to. I can handle myself.”
Melissa Reed: “I know you can. I'm a serious threat to these people in OCW and it's time I show them that. I can't be taken seriously if I continue to lose. Unfortunately, it looks like Richard is going to be my first victim on my comeback. I came here to start some chaos, you know, spread wild fires and whatever. I'm not a clown to be laughed at.”
The two of them shared a quick glance before MJ smiled. It was good to hear Melissa pumped up about the sport again. Melissa was a real threat when she was focused on the goal of winning. The first time they had met in a ring Melissa beat MJ way too easily. Every time she opened her mouth during that match it threw MJ more off her game. Melissa was bold and had a sharp tongue when it suited her interests.
“To be fair, I have been in this business a lot longer than he has. If I lose to him then it means that he is either unbelievable in the ring or I'm rustier than I thought. Either way, it is another loss against me which just doesn't sit with me. ”
MJ Bell: “It really shouldn't sit with anyone...”
Melissa honked her horn at an idiot who decided to cut her off. Her hand smacked against the wheel before she turned on her blinker and switched lanes. People didn't know how to drive these days.
Melissa Reed: “I hate other people and their driving skills. I swear they are all retarded!”
MJ Bell: “Do I need to drive again?”
Melissa Reed: “No, we are almost there...”
The traffic outside became progressively busier the closer they got to the airport. It didn't improve Melissa's mood because it seemed like all the assholes had gotten onto the road just to make her angry. She now had to drive very defensively until she got into the airport drop off zone. MJ had been laughing the whole time because Melissa had been shouting at the traffic.
MJ Bell: “Thanks again, Mel. Promise to not wreck my truck..”
Melissa Reed: “I won't. It'll arrive safely at the next Massacre.”
MJ climbed out of the green vehicle, unload all of her bags and then disappeared inside the busy airport. Melissa groaned because now she had a long trip back...
