SCENE 1
“We cannot even hope to defeat anyone with teamwork like that.”
Two indy league professional wrestlers were standing in a rather small ring. They were damp with sweat so it was obvious they had been in some sort of action within the past few minutes. The two had their arms resting on the top ropes as they looked toward the outside of the ring. Those two were talking amongst themselves while Kenshin Takamura and MJ Bell, the people they happened to be looking at, were on the outside having a team huddle. They had been struggling to capture even the same team chemistry that they had displayed in the Battle Royal at OCW Resurrection.
Kenshin Takamura: “I just don’t understand what we’re doing wrong.”
MJ Bell: “I don’t know. Either you are moving too fast or I’m stepping in the wrong place or…You know what, I need a break. ”
For the past thirty minutes, they had been getting their asses handed to them by these run-of-the-mill wrestlers from this promotion that was even smaller than OCW. It wasn’t even a sanctioned event. These guys had volunteered to train with them because of Kenshin Takamura’s notoriety around the world and MJ was starting to get recognized across the Internet for her daring antics in the ring. The head booker, Dave, stepped in the scene and looked up at his guys, who seemed rather bored of just waiting around.
Dave: “Guys, why don’t ya’ take ten? I think these two need to sort out some things.”
It was obvious he didn’t have to twist their arms as they stepped through the ring ropes and disappeared outside for a bit, probably for a smoke or something of that sort. Afterward, Dave walked up to Kenshin and placed a hand on the Japanese wrestler’s shoulder, giving him a grin in the process. MJ took a step away from Kenshin to grab a water bottle that was sitting on a bench near the outside of the ring. She wiped her arm across her forehead to clear it of the sweat.
“I told ya’ my guys are no slouch, didn’t I? Look, just let ‘em know when you’re ready, okay?”
That competitive fire in Kenshin was burning. The Internet Champion didn’t like having people waiting on him over something like this. Wrestling was what he did. It was obvious that MJ and himself weren’t pleased by their display based on the expression upon both of their faces. Both of MJ’s hands combed back through her sunset hair as she spoke to her tag team partner.
MJ Bell: “You know what was going through my mind during the Battle Royal?”
Finally, Kenshin’s eyes came back to meet MJ’s own gaze with an inquiring expression.
Kenshin Takamura: “What?”
Kenshin couldn’t help but hope that whatever she was about to say might assist them in solving the mystery of why they couldn’t get on the same page as tag team partners. He knew they had the potential. Now, it was just a matter of finding the key to unlock that potential and make it a reality.
MJ Bell: “Absolutely nothing. The only thoughts running through my head were the moves I was about to perform. I was so focused on winning that it like I was on autopilot. Kenshin, we are over-thinking this. I’m too focused on you. It keeps screwing us up.”
For a long moment, Takamura was just silent. His dark eyes were suddenly staring off at the ground past MJ. It seemed pretty evident that Kenshin was lost in thought after what MJ had said. She was right. They were over-thinking, but how could they just think about nothing when they had to be able to compete in conjunction with one another?
After that long pause, Kenshin finally broke the silence.
Kenshin Takamura: “We have to fight as one in order to do that, and fighting as one means we need to be a cohesive unit that places their full trust in one another. I trust you. Do you trust me?”
It took only a few steps for MJ to be directly in front of Kenshin. Her hand reached over to rest on his forearm, a smile grew on her face as she looked up at him. He had now regained his focus on her eyes rather than somewhere on the ground as she spoke.
MJ Bell: “You dummy. I chose you to be my tag team partner because I trust you. You need to have faith that at the right moment I’ll know what to do. We did just fine in the Battle Royal because we were focused on one goal. I think that is the mindset we need again. We basically worked off looking at each other in the match. Forcing something that we already have is going to get us nowhere.”
It seemed to Kenshin that MJ was rather wise beyond her years. He wasn’t surprised though. She had always come off rather intelligent to him anyway.
Kenshin Takamura: “Well, let’s get back to it then.”
The Internet Champion flashed a sharp smirk at his tag team partner before turning away from her. He stood to his full height feeling oddly refreshed after that conversation.Without warning his partner, he suddenly dropped backwards. If MJ didn’t do anything, he would surely fall with a rather painful thud on the concrete floor. Hastily, MJ’s arms stretched out, her feet shuffled forward to catch her partner. It was fine, at first, because she had caught Kenshin before he crashed the floor, but her body was in an odd position. She fell backwards onto her backside with him down on top of her.
Her head tossed back, arm now reached over across his chest and she laughed. Meanwhile, Kenshin had a devious grin on his face as he glanced back at her.
MJ Bell: “That just scared the hell out of me! You asshole! What if I didn’t catch you?”
Kenshin Takamura: “Well, I guess I would be in more pain than I’m already in. Now, what do you say we go show these guys a thing or two about how to work as a team?”
MJ Bell: “You crazy…. Asian. I say, let’s do it but I need you to get off of me first.”
Kenshin Takamura: “Oh, right.”
Takamura pressed his palms to the ground beside MJ’s hips before pushing himself back to his feet. He turned abruptly and offered his hand to his partner to help her up which she accepted with a smile on his face. Easily, he lifted her to her feet before turning toward the windows that looked to the outside of the gym. He could see the two looking in as if awaiting his word.
With his palm downward, Kenshin beckoned them in true Japanese fashion. Unfortunately, they looked at him with pure confusion written on their faces. At first, Kenshin, too, was a bit confused with their reaction, but when he realized what he was doing, he flipped his hand so that his palm was facing up and beckoned them in a more American fashion. This they clearly understood as a lightbulb went off in their heads, and they made their way back into the gym.
As they were on their way back in, Takamura turned away from them to face MJ as he walked toward her.
Kenshin Takamura: “Do you want to start off? Or should I do the honors?”
MJ Bell: “Well, you know what they say, ladies first.”
With a nod, Kenshin turned toward the ring and jogged up the ring steps to take his place on the ring apron. Meanwhile, MJ, with a confident look on her face, slid into the ring and pushed herself to her feet rather quickly as the other team entered the ring. They seemed a little arrogant from the first encounter that had been rather rough for the team now known as Tsunami Sunset, but their arrogance would prove to be unfounded when the match began once more.
First, MJ circled the ring with the man she was taking on who was about 180 pounds or so. He was a rather manageable size for her. Almost immediately, he went to grapple her in a neck and collar tie up, but she ducked underneath him and rebound off the ropes. As she ran toward him, his only reaction was to leap-frog over her so she rebounded off the ropes once more. As he turned back to face her, he was met with a crossbody from MJ, catching him completely off-guard. Before he could retaliate though, Bell was back on her feet, waiting for him.
When he returned to his feet, the other wrestler immediately attempted a rough clothesline, but she ducked underneath his arm and moved around behind him causing him to lose sight of her. When he turned back around to meet her, she snapped off a quick hurricanrana, sending him toward her corner where Kenshin was awaiting a tag.
MJ followed the wrestler into the corner and tagged in her partner, but she didn’t get out. Instead, Kenshin picked up their opponent and hit a snapmare takedown on him causing him to end up in a sitting position. Meanwhile, MJ rebounded off the opposite ropes and hit a perfect dropkick to their opponent’s face, sending him snapping back to hit the mat with a loud thud. Kenshin was gone from his former spot though because as she was hitting the dropkick, he was rebounding off the perpendicular ropes. When he returned to their opponent who was lying on his back, he hit a standing Shooting Star Press.
As Kenshin was getting up, the other wrestler’s partner entered the ring without a tag and went to attack Takamura, but he was caught with a lightning fast sidekick to the gut causing him to double over, but before he could even clutch his stomach, The Tokyo Tiger snapped off a devastating Buzzsaw Kick causing him to be out on his feet. As Kenshin grappled him in a double-leg, he hit his thigh twice, signaling to his partner behind him before lifting him as if he was about to hit a Spinebuster.
Meanwhile, behind Kenshin, MJ moved away from the turnbuckle just a bit so she would get a perfect slingshot. Suddenly, as Kenshin lifted their opponent, she springboarded off the ropes and hit a devastating Shining Wizard in the air, sending their opponent falling to the mat with MJ in more or less a seated senton on top of him before she rolled off of him. As she does, Kenshin locked in his Cloverleaf submission. As he holds the submission maneuver on the other wrestler, Kenshin pointed over to the other man they had been facing who was still out on the ground. MJ knew exactly what to do as she locked in the lock that Kenshin was using and he had taught her how to execute, the Cloverleaf. Both members torqued back on the holds until both of their opponents were tapping frantically. Only then did they finally release their holds.
MJ and Kenshin held the other two to their feet and shook their hands before they left the ring, leaving the two members of Tsunami Sunset in the ring together. A grin broke across Takamura’s features.
Kenshin Takamura: “Well, well, it appears you were right, MJ.”
Her shoulders shrugged casually before she gave him a playful smile.
MJ Bell: “What can I say? I knew what we did in the Battle Royal wasn’t a fluke.”
With a turn of her body, MJ placed her hands on top her hips, her eyes stared upwards at nothing particular. The smile held on her fair features when she turned to address Kenshin. Meanwhile, Kenshin just regarded her with an amused smirk on his face.
MJ Bell: “Why don’t we go get some lunch because I am starving.”
This caused Kenshin to burst out laughing.
Kenshin Takamura: “With how much you eat, you should be at least twice the size you are. Fine, let’s get out of here…”
MJ Bell: “I can’t believe you said that. Let’s go before I actually get offended.”
With that, they walked off into the locker room area to go change so they could go out to get some food…
SCENE 2
The scene opened up to show Kenshin Takamura on his smart phone in his hotel room, talking to someone on the other line. His back was more or less turned away from the camera as he was speaking, but he spoke loud enough for us to be able to hear.
Kenshin Takamura: “Oh yeah, MJ, I will be running a bit late. I am meeting up with the logistics company to pick up my Hayabusa so I won’t be at Massacre for the beginning of the show. If you talk to Dean, let him know for me.”
Takamura paused for a moment or so as MJ was apparently talking on the other end.
“Definitely… All right. Talk to you later. Bye.”
After moving the smart phone away from his ear, without looking at the screen, he stretched his thumb across the touch screen to hit the End button before shoving the phone into his pants pocket. He then turned to the camera.
“Many events will take place at Monday Night Massacre. Not only will I finally find out who will be challenging for my Internet Championship at Black Out 2, but MJ and I will be taking on Dangerous Dan and RM Strong to advance in the Lethal Lottery Tournament. It seems as though these two, though aligned with one another, do not trust one another at all. Not a big deal, right? Wrong because Dan thinks that just because his team is divided that everyone elses’ teams must be too. I am, of course, talking about MJ Bell and yours truly.”
Takamura shook his head as if a bit disappointed about this.
“If that’s really what you believe, Dan, then you are quite delusional. In that Battle Royal, we knew it would have to come down to us taking out the other. It was an accepted fact. Want another accepted fact? When we beat you two on Monday Night Massacre and move on, it is an accepted fact that only one of us will be able to walk away with the OCW Southern Championship. We accept that, but, Dan, if we are talking about that then we are getting way too far ahead of ourselves, are we not? Before MJ and I can even think about wearing the Southern title gold around our waist, we have to advance in the Tournament, don’t we? Well, you can talk about fate all you want, Dan. Fate isn’t going to stop us from beating you on Monday. We not only have a united front. We are a team. The team: Tsunami Sunset. You two are nothing more than two men standing beside each other; untrusting of one another. So that tells me we have a simple, but effective strategy going into the match: divide… and conquer.”
Just like that, the scene cut out to show #TsunamiSunset before cutting completely to black...
“We cannot even hope to defeat anyone with teamwork like that.”
