February 26 – Best Western
It's mid day when Madeline finally wakes. Her hair is a mess, sticking up on the top of her head, her eyes have dark bags under them and her whole body is sore from being stuffed in the truck for hours. The ride becomes uncomfortable, cramped and the hours on the road seem to worsen. Finn's temper with traffic is growing increasingly shorter. She doesn't move from her spot under the covers instead she finds her phone and begins to check texts and tweets. So far there is nothing worth responding to. This is the one thing that she truly dreaded about being a wrestler with little funds. The lack of company.
The night before, Finn had joked about catching rides with Kenshin but MJ had quickly shot the joke down. Ever since Kenshin had slipped into bed with her there is a bit of awkward air. Even if it seemed awkward to only her. It is awkward none the less. The phone flies through the air landing on the end of the bed. With a stretch of her back she lets out a small noise, a mix between groan and squeak before rolling out of bed.
MJ Bell: Finn?
The room remains silent. Her head nods slowly as she mutters under her breath. Finn must have left. The downside to being on the road is the lack of company. It is one of the reasons why she loves to be at the show. She can sit down and bullshit with whoever passes by. A random worker or a sound guy, perhaps one of her competitors. Now that MJ is closer to Kenshin she normally finds him to talk to him. Kenshin has her sense of humor, her father's sense of humor. It might be the reason the two of them get along. The random thought of her parents flashes through her mind causing her to freeze on her way to the bathroom. Her lips curl inward, lungs sucking up a large gulp of air to relax her nerves. The jitter in her fingers floods through her chest. The twinge surges throughout her body consuming any other emotion.
With a shake of her head she distracts herself from the complicating thoughts. Her hands grasp together while her thumb smooths the center of her palm to ease the tension. Eyes stuck on the door leading into the bathroom but she isn't staring. Her thoughts continue to whirl around her head. Every time she sees her mother there is a fight that screws with her mind. It crushes her will, makes her uneasy and every time it causes something horrible to happen in the ring. The last time Finn was injured and forced out of the sport he loved more than anything. It wasn't her mother backing him up in the ring it was her. Madeline slipped up. She didn't get up in time to stop Jacob from slamming her brother down onto the floor below. Her heart is racing from the mix of guilt and horror.
The door swings open as Finn walks in balancing a pizza box on his arm. When he notices his sister blankly staring at the wall he sets the pizza down then moves to her side. His eyes glance from her face to the wall to make sense of her.
Finn Bell: Madeline?
Her eyes leave the door, out of the corner of her eyes she sees Finn. The dryness in her throat fixes itself after she swallows.
MJ Bell: Sorry. I was just, uh, staring at the, um, wall.
There are long pauses between her words. Finn's eyes brows scrunch in concern but before he can ask anything she is moving past him to the food. He continues to watch her pick a piece from the box then make her way to the bed. MJ flips the television on without a word.
Finn Bell: Did you just wake up?
MJ Bell: Yeah.
The room grows silent once more and Finn bites his words back. He grabs the pizza box taking it with him when he sits on the edge of the bed. MJ quietly chews her food, eyes locking on the comedy on. She gives little smirks and scoffs but nothing more. After a while, Finn shifts on the bed to look back at his sister.
Finn Bell: Now, I am forcing you to spill your guts. What is bothering at you?
MJ Bell: I really, really, don't want to see mom.
Finn Bell: She is going to take that rather personal.
The show is on mute now as MJ rotates her body to look at her brother. Both of them seem to be mentally preparing for a fight by the way they tense.
MJ Bell: She can take it personal because it is personal! I don't want to start losing because mom hates wrestling.
Finn gives her a emotionless face and a aggravated sigh.
Finn Bell: Madeline, come on. You can't actually believe that the visit is going to make you screw up. You are being childish.
MJ Bell: It happened last time!
She snaps fiercely. Her palms slam down against the bed. It shocks Finn to see his sister abrupt anger. Her voice lowers itself but she repeats what she said.
MJ Bell: It happened last time. She came to see us hours before our hardcore match with Jacob and Tucker, right? I couldn't focus after that. During that match I kept doubting everything we stood for. She does this every time i'm finally on top of things.
Her shoulders slump as her eyes stare down at the bed spread. A sigh escapes Finn's mouth when he listens to her. There is a pause but Finn speaks once more.
Finn Bell: You let her get under your skin. How is it that you can block out any opponent you are against but when it comes to our mother you fall short?
MJ Bell: I don't know.
Finn Bell: Perhaps it's time that you actually talk to her. You need to be civil with each other instead of reaching for the sharp objects.
MJ Bell: Yeah.... I know.
Out of the corner of her eyes she watches the movie and a smile breaks across her face. Finn watches her again before he settles against the bed. MJ distracts herself with the film letting the conversation end with that. There is still some concern with the subject of her mother but she lets it rest for the moment.
February 26- A White Ford.
The camera turns on opening up to the same scene MJ normally is. The back of the truck is down and she is sitting on the edge with her hands behind her. She is leaning back.
MJ Bell: What is a champion? It can be explained and defined in so many ways that I can't even begin to touch on the subject. By definition “A person who has defeated or surpassed all rivals in a competition.” It is the top dog. The person that everyone wants to beat or what everyone wants to become. It is the one title in this business that everyone desires. It is a goal when you get into any sport because it means that you conquered everyone else. It is basically a bragging right. Now, let me define what the word 'Undisputed' means. By Definition it means 'to be called into question'. Before anyone goes to correct me, I know what Undisputed Champion means as well. 'An undisputed championship is a professional wrestling term for a champion who has obtained all of the major individual championships in his field during his era. The undisputed championship is an extremely rare and prestigious accomplishment.'
For some reason this brought a smirk to MJ's beautiful features.
MJ Bell: I don't doubt that in the other company that Alexis might have been their undisputed champion. I wouldn't know from what you showed during the Battle Royal though. Up until the end I didn't even notice that you were in there. I will give you the dues that you deserve because you did last until it was just three of us in that ring. You showed some impressive abilities during the match from what I saw. However, it wasn't you that tossed me out of that match and it wasn't you that won the whole thing. Now, you have to be asking yourself where the hell is she taking this. Well, you see, Alexis, being at the top doesn't carry over to everywhere you go. It doesn't matter if you think that it should. Threaten me, tell me that I should be frightened of what you can do, but I won't be. In reality, you are back at the bottom just like everyone else and have to climb your way back up. That is what I've been doing. If you want to be the best then you better start proving it. I don't give credit where it isn't due. Maybe you deserve some credit of being the 'undisputed champion' from where you came from but I don't judge what I don't see.
She is now leaning forward with both of her elbows propped on her legs. Her eyes narrow slightly.
MJ Bell: I know that this is where you can probably pick a part everything I just said. Let me beat you to it. 'But MJ you only lasted because Kenshin helped you out.' Well, that is probably because I had almost everyone gunning after me. From the start of the match I was targeted by almost everyone in there. The two of us working together didn't subtract from my skills. It sure as hell didn't take away what I did alone in that ring. It was actually a little flattering to have that many people worrying about me. They saw that I'm serious about what I do. So far I haven't shown any signs of what I've said not being the absolute truth. My first match was Triple Threat. I told both of my opponents that they better bring their a-game and warned them that I wouldn't hold anything back. Guess how that ended? I did exactly what I said I would do. I beat them.
Her expression returns to a more serious one as she shifts on the edge of the truck bed.
MJ Bell: I, being someone who can back what I say, well, that presents a challenge to everyone that faces me. It presents a challenge to you, Alexis. If you want to beat me then you better bring the very best that you have to that ring. It doesn't matter what you did in the past, it only matters what you do in that ring come Monday. You can tell me how amazing, skilled or anything else you choose to but if you don't have the abilities to back all that up then you should not waste my time. I don't want to hear it if you can't show me in that ring. When I tell you that I only bring my best whenever I wrestle then I do. When I tell you that I never give up then it's true. When I claim that I can be the biggest pain in the ass during a match then it is very true. I try to not say anything that I can't back up with action. So when I say that I am going to kick your ass then you better believe that I'm going to do it.
Her head dips down for a moment before she looks back up at the camera.
MJ Bell: I'll keep the rest of this relatively simple. I couldn't care less if you don't rise to the occasion because I'm not here to carry anyone. I'm also not here to make anyone else look good. Whether or not you actually bring your best or you slack off because you think I'm not on the same skill level, it will not effect what I do.. Just know, underestimating me will result in you loss.
She shrugs her shoulders, her head tilting to the side as she does before she pushes the camera away from her. Soon it all fades to black.
