Psssh …Casablancas is the most overrated new performer I have ever seen. She did one cool spot and now she has all of the mongs in those High School gyms …which is made up of only women and children …cheering her. And she is too comedic for her own good. Her very existence in this match spits in the face of tradition that dates all the way back to the territories. If Dean want to impress the REAL fans, he would fire that bitch and immediately promote Kenshin because Japanese > England.

Dear Dean,
I am mailing you because I have been a lifelong fan of the sport since I was a little kid and I am thirty now. And do you know what I like about wrestling? Familiarity. I like that despite a few differences here and there that it is the same athletic competition it has ALWAYS been. Now, I will be honest when I say that I was looking forward to Resurrection and the revival of a company that I loved when it first aired …that was until you made the biggest mistake you could have ever made. You spit in the face of us DIEHARD fans by placing a weird joke competitor in the main event. It has nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman …but women also should just be submissive …but it has to do with the fact that she has turned wrestling into a comedy routine. What was with the singing? I don’t get what that has to do with anything. And the most disgusting thing is that you have people in the arena cheering her like she is something special. You KNOW it should have been Noah Mackenzie in that match. Yes, he lost, but he fits the mold of main eventer more than that British twit does. In fact, he is a bonafide main eventer elsewhere …that obviously means he should be headlining shows here. And until you demote her to the bathroom break bra and panties match …I will refuse to watch your show. Good job losing a viewer because you decided to be “creative” and “different.”
Sincerely

Now, I never understood wrestling; I just never got it. As a female, it just never had an appeal for me. To me it was just a bunch of greased up men in speedos locking up in a pissing contest. And every time that we would have a wrestling show come into town and I would have to report on it, I had always carried the same opinion …I just never understood. But that was until Online Championship Wrestling came to town and I saw the female performer that stole the show for me. Now, don’t get me wrong, her gender DID have an appeal, but that wasn’t a lot of what drew me to her. While people like her opponent Ian Bishop are out for glory …she takes a more utilitarian approach to the sport. She isn’t in it for wins for herself but you can tell that she wants the best for the product and the performers themselves …even the guy she put through the table. She only did it to prove a point about greed and what it really takes to be an athlete in this day and age: BRAVERY. And to top it off, she entertained the crowd with a popular eighties tune. In a world full of the same type “ANGRY GREEK GODs” trying to out shock the other, it is nice to see a woman who can actually stand out and prove that there is more to the product than what we the general audience know. I might not be the typical wrestling fan but she has turned me into a fan of hers and I will definitely be watching her at Resurrection and most her career. Thanks to her OCW gained a fan that they wouldn’t otherwise have.
*The following is a written that was left in Brianna’s makeshift locker room last Monday Night.
Dear Brianna,
Before you go jumping to conclusions, this was not written by Ian Bishop. But I am a person that shares his concern over you even being on the roster and fighting for a title right out of training. But it isn’t the fact that you are a rookie that is bothering most of the locker room, it is the fact that you just don’t belong here. The fans may cheer you, but they don’t know much about this sport and what works. And they do not understand that they are fickle when it comes to performers like you. They flock to you because they THINK you are something new but you aren’t the tried and true performer that this business was built on. It is a formula that works and we need to don’t you here to change that. Do yourself a favor and just let Ian win. He is the example of a REAL wrestler with REAL goals …not you and your flippant ideals that none of us in the back understand. Please either go back to the psychology profession or modeling or whatever you did before sabotaging this business.

*A letter sent to Miss Casablancas that was attached to a crayon drawn picture of her darting off a basketballhoop into a table sent to Miss Casablancas. The letter was written in red crayon.
~Dear misses Brianna, my name is Kayla, and I am eight years old. I normally find wrestling icky and for boys but when I saw you destroy the bad man who hates black people when my older brother dragged my family, I became a big fan. I want to be a singing psychologist wrestler when I grow up.

The camera opens up to Brianna Casablancas reading said letter from a young girl that got turned onto the business by the rookie performer. While she smiles all of the time, there was something more genuine than usual to said smile. She takes the letter and stands up in front of the computer in her study. On the screen are several windows with the message board reactions towards her as well as the e-mails she has received from some of the purest. She also looks down at the threat she got from an anonymous source within OCW. She looks at it with confidence …because she knows the more people buck against you, the more you are actually accomplishing. On her desk is her plane ticket to Wichita. With her bags all packed, she grabs it. As she heads out of her study, she whispers to herself.
“Through the looking glass.”
-----
Our video opens on ancient statues which had have been constructed during the Greco Roman age as it portrays two men locked up in a wrestling hold. Brianna’s voice over begins once again.
“Now, it is time to talk about your favorite subject, Ian. I went through the past as seen through my eyes, then the present through the eyes of the company as a whole, and now we are talking about the future that YOU represent, love.”
That image then switches to an old black and white silent film footage as two mustachioed men raise fists to each other in what is commonly known as a donnybrook.
“And what you represent my dear is tradition. Now, I know many wrestling fans might see that as a good thing …and sometimes it can be. But other times, it promotes a lack of innovation and a repeating of the same ideas. And that, mate, is the future you represent…”
The image flashes once again to still old black and white footage and still mustachioed fighters but now they are in singlet’s and grappling with one another in a makeshift ring.
“…as in not much of one.”
Suddenly, images of pin up models from the 40’s appear interspersed with black and white video footage of the earliest women wrestling matches. Those watching look on as if they are a sideshow and get great joy watching the dames toss each other around.
“I have said this many time and time again. But you come out here making the same claims that every other new competitor makes and you think you are saying something new. You think you are saying something profound but you aren’t saying something that most of the world hasn’t heard from an arrogant wrestler before. The only thing you add is a twinge of racism because it garners you some attention …but you still aren’t really breaking any new ground. The same can be said for your remarks towards women which you have a right to your opinion and I won’t shush you love and do you know why? Because I do not need to say a bloody thing to prove that it is nothing but shite spewing out of your mouth. All I have to do is come out there and DO to invalidate any claim of my weight, size, or gender a bloke may have. And again, I am a woman in the wrestling world and if you think that you are saying something new then you have to be quite daft.”
Now we are in the 1960’s as the sport has evolved into graining color on some very old video footage that is tough to find. The mustachioed men in singlets are replaced with burly men in trunks with boots, elbow pads; the whole works. Most of which have side burns as well.
“But you don’t just represent yourself here. You are representing a good number of wrestlers the world over. Look no further than Noah Mackenzie who, like me seems to be a fan favorite. You would think that despite our match, the two of us would get along. But even he wants you to beat the living crap out of me. Sure it might just be that it is because he is bitter. I reckon that it is more because he comes from the same school of thought that you do: that there is a mold, there is a guideline that needs to be followed and the moment that anything ‘different’ comes a long it needs to be snuffed out. And that difference is the fact that I do not believe that wrestling has to be an ‘I’ sport and the moment someone comes in stating that, well, that is a threat to their core values of individualism that they have set up for themselves. If a bird comes in and says ‘I don’t have the same values the others have’ and she gets a good feedback, well, then veterans like you and him are endangered of becoming extinct to new ideals, updated ideals and ideals that fit into the rest of the rest of the mainstream world in 2014 not the locker rooms of the 1980’s. Because while the traditional way is about competition, there are other factors that got added to that over time hasn’t there? Greed, corruption, politics and alienation became part of that tradition hasn’t it? There is no wonder that you came in thinking that Dean would give you the Central title because generations of wrestlers have been fed that this is just as much a popularity contest as it is a physical competition. No wonder the moment that Kenshin makes a donation to the company, Rain does the same to match him. That fascinated me until I realized something: they don’t see the company the way I do. They think the main even can be bought …but not just that, they all want their STAKE in the company …so it stays the way they WANT it. If that is part of your ‘tradition’ that some of the boys in the back clasp onto like a baby on teet, I want no part of it.”
Our trip through time now takes us around the world.
“Conformity.”
Footage of the earliest Luchadore matches in Mexico is highlighted featuring men who all wear masks flipping each other around.
“Repetition.”
The traditional matches from Japan that is ALL about competition feature in this video package.
“The past.”
And finally, we are England in the 70’s where wrestling is indeed a part of the circus and is LITERALLY a side show.
“The status quo of wrestling.”
The video then cuts to the good old days of Rock and Wrestling when the arena’s got bigger and the territories began to suffer. A man in a bright trunk with orange face paint hits a gorilla press on another monstrous man in face paint. The man poses with his tongue sticking out.
“That status quo will continue to drag on if I let you walk out of that match on your own. That isn’t much of a future as much as it is the same record playing on a loop. Yes, traditionalists will love it because they fear change; they fear somebody coming in and taking their hobby away from them. Again, like you and your lot, they are protective of what is theirs and do not want the product changed even though it is for the betterment of the product and it will allow to reach a wider audience."
Flash-forward to the shock fest that was the nineties as a leather clad man with a goat tee power bombs a bald man with black t-shirt and jeans through a flaming table. This then cuts to the female wrestlers of this time …pretty much stripping each down to their underwear and being nothing more than eye candy.
“OCW is video game industry and I am Anita Sarkeesian. I am a new voice …and you better shut me up now before this business isn’t “yours” anymore. Because god forbid you have to share with outsiders who don’t fall into your pre-conceived notion of who should be in this business and who should not be in this business.”
And now we are in 1999 as Online championship Wrestling first debuts and a legend is born. Images of President Dean, Scott Syren, The Great One, Big Bifford, Lurrrr, among many others feature with many of them holding titles and soaking in the adoration of the fans. The crowd was ruckus as was customary for its time. There was an energy there that would be VERY hard to replicate …but the current, smaller crowd are on that cusp.
“It is that elitist mentality that you represent that I will SHATTER!”
That takes our video trip in history to the present, to the current OCW as we know it today as that Indy Company that is trying to make its comeback.
“Let us face facts; we will be fighting in one GIGANTIC metaphor this Sunday. Now, it isn’t EXACTLY a glass ceiling but it is close enough, is it not? On one side of the glass, is the sport as we have ALWAYS known it: it’s all about titles, it’s all about cutting deals, and it’s all about maintaining a mold even though you are only attracting the same lot you have for almost a century. You are on the same side of the glass in a very unenviable position as I smash through it and destroy the status quo …thus changing the future from repeating itself over and over with the same faces but only the names have changed. I will break through the glass and I will indeed make the NEW OCW, the actual NEW OCW where it isn’t about an elite few who fit a profile, who refuse to accept anything different than them and only do half of their fighting in ring while doing the other half by making demands to the boss. It will be the an OCW where we ALL strive to not just get the SAME fans to continue to watch but new fans who might like a little variety outside of the “cocky guy” slams other “gothic but even more cocky guy” redundancy of this sport; where the stereotype is broken”
And we behold Brianna’s first appearance on Massacre as she lays out Skytch with brass knuckles. It feels so long ago but it was barely even a month ago since that moment.
The video picks up as Ian Bishop’s first promo a week later plays over Brianna’s speech.
“And that is why I started all of this in the first place …because I originally wanted you to understand my point of view. I really did see potential in you to be THAT opponent that could bring forth a new dawn in the company TOGETHER. You attacked me and I thought for one moment that maybe I had a kindred spirit. I didn’t consider that whole “Wunderkind” bollocks that was being tossed about at the time but apparently you did. And do you know the funny thing? If you hadn’t had done that, Dean probably would have changed his mind and would have chosen you based on your merits alone. But instead, you caught my ire. You made me see more in you than was really there. And when I realized that, you broke my heart. And I have tried to bring that opponent I saw in you out but you refuse to be THAT person …you just insist on being unremarkable. You insisted on following the pack even though it really hasn’t done you very much good over the last few weeks.”
And then we get the first shot of a feud between Bishop and Casablancas as he lays her out in the middle of the ring. This is intercut with footage of the House of Mirrors being set up.
“But you just are not that person, nor are you ever going to be THAT person. You were the exact opposite of what I looked for in a PERFECT opponent …in a guy that fought for the competition and wasn’t deluded by the system. And now, much to my displeasure, I will have to dispatch of you in the main event of Resurrection in a match DESIGNED to end careers and break the hopes and aspirations of those who enter but do not walk out the winner. ”
The footage comes even faster as Brianna performing the 630 through a table off a basketball hoop is played with more footage of the House of Mirrors being set up. This is followed with Ian beating her with Idris in the ring. Then there is a shot of her super EGO kicking her chair into Bishop’s face as flashes of the mirrors show.
“And then social change can FINALLY occur in OCW and we will no longer be just viewing another re-run we have been watching since the sixties.”
The image ends with a promo shot of Ian and Brianna staring each other down …before the picture shatters into our fade out …but not before Brianna gets a final word in.
“And you’ll hum this tune forever!”
Psssh …Casablancas is the most overrated new performer I have ever seen.
