Sometimes, to have a shot at your dreams, you’ve got to make tough decisions.
The camera comes up on Peter Vaughn, staring intently forward.
You don’t have any help with those decisions. Sometimes you just have to take a risk.
The camera moves, showing Vaughn is looking at a wall filled with packaged lightbulbs. He tosses aside a shopping list and makes a choice, getting a couple different bulbs. He puts them in his basket, which also has other items needed by OCW, his new home. Vaughn turns to another person looking at the bulbs and starts talking to him.
Hi, yes, I’m Peter Vaughn, the wrestling star. Nice to meet you.
The guy steps away, not knowing who the idiot is. Vaughn doesn’t notice.
I’m making my return to the ring in Outsider Championship Wrestling. You must have heard of it. Fighting a guy named the Uber Man. I don’t know about his fighting skill but he must be good at driving a car. I asked Dean to let me be the driver for us too for more money but he said no, and must have hired Uber Man instead. That’s okay, Dean is a great boss, he’s letting me do janitorial work for conditional pay. I’m hoping that’s more than my contract, I could use the money. Being a star takes dough.
The man walks away quickly not wanting any part of Vaughn, who is now talking to himself.
This is just the start for me. I have wanted the big title for so long now. I have always wanted to be OCW champion. I mean, it’s a different OCW, but it would mean a lot. I think. It has to mean something right? And at least I have a job away from those bratty high schoolers. Beating Uber Man will be so much better than cleaning the cafeterias. Horror shows there. Cleaning up blood will be an improvement. Not that I want to bleed, nor anyone else, y’know?
Vaughn realizes he’s alone. He shrugs and goes for the checkout line. Seeing someone else run up, he has a second realization and gets out his cheap flip phone. It’s good for talking and nothing else. He dials a number and waits for an answer.
President Dean? Sir? It’s Peter. Peter Vaughn. The Janitor? Yes. I’m here at checkout getting supplies but I forgot to get the corporate card. Can you give me the number? What? No, we must have… no? Then what, checks? No? I mean, yes, I have enough I think, but… get a receipt? Reimbursement? Oh, okay. Sure. I will get these then and get back to the house. Thank you for your time, sir. I am looking forward to proving you made the right choice by signing me. Uber Man doesn’t stand a chance. Sir?
Dean has already hung up. Vaughn looks at his cash and puts a few items to the side before getting ready to check out. We fade to black.
