“Winning is great, sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose. Nobody goes undefeated all the time. If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday.” ~Wilma Rudolph
Defeat is something that one can take with stride or one can consume all their energy on and call it quits. Defeat brings out the best in a person. It tells how one strives to gain their greatest victory and win a World Championship. Defeat is present in everything a person does. It brings down many a man including the best in the world.
Defeat is something one man is not afraid of. It is a word that describes how hard he must work to overcome it and obtain success. Defeat is something that one man knew all too well when he first broke into this business. His very first match in his very first company was a defeat. However, that one person who defeated that man soon came to many defeats against…
“ME!”
It is here that a man steps out from beyond the shadows. He has long brownish blonde hair. Blue face paint covers one side of his face, as the other reveals his true identity…Dangerous Dan. He leans forward and speaks.
“I’ve had many defeats in my career, but that hasn’t stopped me from getting where I am today. My loss to Bobbi last week was nothing more than a minor setback. It may have cost me from competing in the Central Championship match at Resurrection, but it helped me find myself and understand that I am actually better than Bobbi. Yes, she may have an undefeated streak, but I almost cost her first loss. I was the man that took Bobbi to the next level here in OCW. I showed her that I’m not some underdog she can just overlook. No, I showed her that I am someone who is to be feared; someone to be on the lookout for.”
Dan turns his attention towards a white board on his left. It is the type of board used in schools instead of a blackboard. There are several names listed on the board as well as several three to four letter companies listed above each one. He stands at the board staring at the letters GCWA.
“It was here in the GCWA that I began my wrestling career just five years ago. My very first match was against a future World Champion Derek Mobley. I lost that match, but it wouldn’t be long before I would face him again and defeat him twice for the World Tag Team titles. This man gave me one hell of a title match for the World title. It was here that I came to defeat yet again. This man helped me along my career. He made the person I am today. I never asked for his help but he helped me along the way. Here in GCWA I captured every championship but two. My goal was to be World Champion, but although I didn’t get the title, I did defeat many of the World Champions. Don’t believe me? Ask Derek. Ask Titan 3. I defeated some of the best. And because of my best it gave me my first ever Hall of Fame status. Yes, I am a Hall of Famer for those unaware. So don’t take me lightly.”
Dan’s attention now turns towards the letters CWF.
“It was here in the CWF where I yet again made history. The longest reigning tag team champion in the company’s history. I rose to main event status here in CWF. I defeated many of the best including the Blue Scorpion who eventually took me under his wing here. I won the company’s tag titles as well as the Impact Championship. I even won the annual Golden Intentions Battle Royal to become number one contender to the CWF World Heavyweight Championship. I was bound and determined to be World Champion here too, but fortunately for our friend Danny B, he got out from having to defend that title against me. Make no mistake Danny B…you and I will have our match sometime down the line. I am determined to face you and show that I CAN defeat you.”
Dan smiles as he pictures the thought of finally getting his hands on Danny B. He has been waiting for that match to happen for three years. He snaps out of his trance and turns his attention towards the letters ICW.
“Ah, the ICW. It is here that I finally did the one thing that I wasn’t able to do in the other companies. I captured my very first World title. I held the title for nearly two months before losing it. I don’t really care that it was an ‘independent’ title, it was a title nonetheless. I retired shortly after that match to focus on raising my family. I needed to focus on me. Two years later I got the call.”
Dan turns and points to the current letters of OCW.
“Yes…OCW…my home away from home. I’m hoping that this time around the OCW can pick up where I know it could have gone. I started out strong the first go around and almost captured one of two championships. I was either going to be Hardcore Champion or World Champion. But our Prez decided to shut it down for good. You can only imagine my excitement when Dean asked me to come back. Of course, I wouldn’t come back for just any price. It had to be the right price. I have a son to support after all. I was thrilled when he asked me to come back and help bring the company to where I know it should be had he kept it alive. I know for a fact I would have been the World Champion. I will be the champion again. Good luck to the two in the Central Championship matches, because you will be facing me after I win the Internet championship.”
Dan turns directly around and stares at a replica WWE Internet Championship. He glances it over before returning it back inside the case that it was held in. ‘Dangerous Dan’ is spelt across the nameplate.
"Next Sunday at Resurrection I have the opportunity to become number one contender to the OCW Internet Championship. I will be facing one of my opponents this Monday on Massacre. Noah Mackenzie. Noah, you have no idea what you are getting yourself into. I may not be getting my Central title match, but I’m here to be champion once again. I’ve not held any titles in three years and I’m more determined than ever to do so once again. The Internet title is just as prestigious as the Central Championship is. We are live on the Internet every week. Therefore, in a slight way, the Internet title means more than the Central title. Being Internet Champion means defending the title on a weekly basis, as far as I know. It means proving that you are the best that this company has to offer. The Central title just means that you’re the main event. I guess the Internet title means more to me now than the Central title does. Don’t get me wrong Noah; I’m going to hold the Central title at some point. You can bet on that. But in the meantime, I’m going to do what I know how to do and that’s win whatever championship match I’m put in. This Monday at Massacre, you’re going to find out just how dangerous I really am Noah. That partner of yours now exactly how dangerous I am.”
Dan now holds a picture of TLS in his hands. He begins reminiscing about the ol’ GCWA days. He remembers how they fought in tag matches...and most importantly for the Intercontinental title.
“TLS…it’s great to see that…well…face again. You remind me of someone that appeared in that movie about that superhero. What was it called? Oh well. Anyhow, you of all people should know exactly what I am capable of in that very ring. You and I had many battles in GCWA. Some were as partners and some were against each other. I may have never beaten you in GCWA, but here in OCW…I will. I’m going to finally get my chance to prove that I am better than you TLS. GCWA was a starting point for me TLS. Now, I’m advanced. I’m a veteran now TLS. This Danger Boy is the next best thing in OCW. I look forward to our epic match this Monday. This now brings me to my tag team partner.”
Dan lowers his head and brushes his hands between his hands. He wipes his face showing a look of disappointment in the one unpainted eye.
“Roach, unlike many people I won’t be making fun of your name. I know what it’s like to be made fun of for the name you choose to go by. However, don’t think I’m fooled by you one bit. I don’t trust you Roach and I highly doubt that you trust me either. I don’t trust someone that takes a name after something that is disgusting and crawls on the ground. But that won’t stop me from focusing on the important thing. Beating our opponents and going on to Resurrection and become contender to the Internet title. Roach, I hope you know who you’re stepping in the ring with. I’m no friend to tagging with someone other than my brother. I don’t trust any partner but Chris. My brother and I don’t like when other people step on our toes. Don’t make me hurt you when the match is over. If you want to get your hands on TLS…you’re going to have to wait your turn. I have unfinished business with him myself. I have to beat him. I will be the one to beat him this Monday. I get my hands on Noah at Resurrection, so I’m making a statement with TLS this week. Don’t get in my way Roach or I’ll squish you like the disgusting vulture you take after.”
Dan turns his attention back towards the board staring it over and over. He reminisces about the old days as well as what the future has in store. Before he leaves he makes one final statement.
“I’m going to prove to everyone this Monday that I am the man to beat here in OCW. I may not be in the main event at Resurrection…I may not be facing Mario, Bobbi, or any other person that matters, but I will be the one to beat coming out of Resurrection. On March 3rd, I’m going into Massacre as Dangerous Dan, but I’m walking out as Dangerous Dan the OCW Internet Champion. I’ve waited a long time to get my hands on a title. In three weeks, I’m going to do just that. TLS…Roach…Noah…your futures are hanging in the balance here. I’m the man to get through this Monday. All three of you know it too. I dub my opponents as The Lost Noah. Lost Noah, I know you boys sense it in the air. I know you have that feeling in the pit of your stomach. The ENDD is near boys. Can’t you feel it?”
With those final words, Dan disappears once again into the shadows leaving us hungry for more. Slowly the view changes into darkness. No more Dan, no more scenery, just darkness. Fade…to…
