There is always the danger that we may just do the work for the sake of the work. This is where the respect and the love and the devotion come in - that we do it to God, to Christ, and that's why we try to do it as beautifully as possible. ~Mother Teresa
It’s not much of a setting but the beginning of our story begins in the middle of a green pasture. The hay bales firmly rolled up in their piles, waiting for the farmer to use or sell. Two beautiful brown horses lean their heads down as they tear away at the grass hungry for their food. Just beyond the horses stands a herd of cows which are doing the same. A baby calf stands next to his mother as she feeds herself with the grass. Above the horses deep into the sky lies a beautiful sunset. The orange light filters throughout the sky as a shade of pink beams slightly to right of the bright orange. Shining down below is a long strand of white light that glows beneath the center of the orange.
Down below in the pasture we see a man seated next to one of the hay bales. It is almost like the opening scene of the Wizard of Oz, only this isn’t your typical Dorothy Gale. The man has medium blonde hair, slender, standing almost, not quite, six feet tall. He wears a blue shirt with tight slender jeans. He is quickly identified as Dangerous Dan. Dan stares directly up at the sunset amazed by its beauty. It isn’t long before Dan notices someone watching him. He turns his attention towards view of the camera, or whatever is capturing his presence. He smiles.
“I’ve always had a thing for sunsets. I’ve been amazed by their formation and how the colors blend in with one another. It gives me hope that there really is something or someone up above who is responsible for this creation. I come out to this pasture whenever I can to admire the sunset. This is the only place where I can get an accurate and precise view of it. Its beauty soothes me when I am feeling stressed or have to have something to think about.”
Dan turns his attention back to the sunset. He leans back resting his back firmly against the hay bale. He places his hands gently behind his head and takes a deep breath.
“To me a sunset can be a peaceful thing or it can be something dangerous. A sunset can be peaceful just by the colors alone as it holds beauty within its being. However, a sunset can be dangerous because you never know what lies just behind it. Is there a dark cloud coming? Are stars really behind them? Is the moon visible beyond it? There’s many a things that can make it dangerous.”
Dan pauses for a brief moment as he closes his eyes and takes several slow, calm steady breaths. He crosses his legs, still leaning his body against the hay bale. He opens his eyes and again continues to stare at the sunset.
“This sunset has a special meaning to me just because of the beam of light shining down from it. To me that light represents peacefulness. It represents that all things are falling into place whenever you stare at. It’s a sign of hope that good things are about to happen. I believe that something good is about to happen. Why? Because this is a special week for me. I’m in the main event at Massacre. Who am I facing? Well let’s just say that this ‘person’ is someone who doesn’t think before she speaks.”
Dan leans forward placing his arms firmly to his side. He uncrosses his legs and places them Indian style. He reaches over and plucks a piece of grass from its roots on the ground. He stares at the grass for a moment and begins breaking it apart into tiny little pieces; inch by inch.
“This week I am facing Bobinette Carey in the main event of Massacre. Who is this Bobinette Carey? I haven’t faced many women in my career, but I know not to hold anything back against a woman. They are just a ferocious as guys can be. Unlike her…I’m not taking her for granted. Bobinette…you think people haven’t taken me seriously before? You think that is supposed to offend me that you don’t take me seriously? Well it doesn’t little missy. I could care less what you think about me now or before. I prove people like you wrong because that is what I do inside that ring. You think you’re a threat to me? Ha! I laugh at people like you. Actually, I don’t laugh I just feel sorry for people like. I feel sorry because people like you feel so badly about themselves that they have to degrade another person just to justify their feelings towards themselves. You think, Bobinette, that people from all over the country haven’t criticized me for my name? I don’t give two shits whether you think I’m ‘dangerous’ or not. I’ll prove that this Monday when I beat your skinny ass inside that ring.”
The colors of the sunset begin to start fading away revealing a path of darkness behind it. The moon shines brightly behind a speck of pink that sets behind an oracle of orange. Down below a horse moves closer in the background. She stares directly in Dan’s direction not moving a muscle. It appears as if she’s wondering whether to carry on with her eating or run for cover. She suddenly decides to ignore the situation and continue her eating. She bows her head and begins plucking grass into her mouth. Dan continues to speak.
“If there’s one thing that I am used to in this business it’s that no matter where I go people are not going to take me seriously. People are going to ridicule me because of my name. I’m used to that Bobbi…may I call you Bobbi? Well it doesn’t matter what you want, because I’m going to call you that regardless. I’m used to guys, and girls, not treating me with respect and acting as if I’m some scum off the bottom of their shoes. I don’t care about that Bobbi. You think you’re money in this company has any effect on me? It doesn’t. You could invest a million dollars into OCW and I wouldn’t care about that. The only thing that I care about Bobbi is heading to Resurrection and competing for the Central Championship. My goal in this match Bobbi is to impress the Prez and make it to the main event at Resurrection. My goal is be World Champion once again. Although this wouldn’t be the ‘world’ title, it is a heavyweight title. It is the champion of champions here in OCW. It’s the belt everyone wants to capture. It’s the belt that represents the best there is to offer in OCW. Being the Central Champions means being the face of the OCW. It means being the person who fights the hardest each day and night to be the best they can be. Bobbi…I plan on being the first EVER Central Champion. No one is going to stand in my way and that includes you.”
By this time the sunset has now lost all of its color, except for the orange glow of the sun. It slowly begins making its way behind the mountain of trees.
“Ah, the sun is beginning to set behind the trees. That is such a beautiful sight when it slowly begins disappearing behind the trees. That is what I’m going to do to you Bobbi. I’m going to destroy you so bad inside that ring that you won’t even make it to Resurrection to face Mario. You think he was your biggest competition? You haven’t met me yet. Go ahead and continue to NOT take me seriously. You will see what happens when ANYONE doesn’t take me seriously. I’m not a laughing matter Bobbi. This Monday it’s going to be ShowTime. I’m going to make you put up or shut up. You haven’t met anyone quite like me just yet. I’m a danger inside that ring. I’m dangerous enough that you’re going to be going into Resurrection worried that Mario is better than you. I’m going to destroy you Bobbi. You’re money can’t help you this Monday. You’re about to find out what dangerous really looks like. Take a good look in the mirror Bobbi. That pretty face of yours is going to be messed up. Can’t you see it? Just like the sun sunset is now Bobbi…the ENDD is near Bobbi. Can’t you feel it?”
With those finals words Dangerous Dan watches as the sunset finally comes to an abrupt end. The sky now turns to solid darkness with the stars and the moon shining brightly in the sky. Dan stands to his feet, turns around, and makes his way to the edge of the pasture. He slowly steps foot onto the road and just like the sunset, disappears into the darkness.
As our new scene opens we find Dangerous Dan seated next to his brother in what appears to be a church. Inside there are several pews with people seated in each one. At the front of the church stands a man behind the pulpit reading from what is identified as a bible.
“With his glory we shall overcome all things thru Christ our Savior!”
“Amen!”
The man, who turns out to be the preacher, begins to step out from behind the pulpit. He steps down and is now face to face with the entire church. He begins his preaching some more as two recognizable faces make their way to the back. The two familiar men, better known as Dangerous Dan and Crazy Chris make their way, one by one, thru swinging doors. They both stop next to a water fountain. Dan leans down and takes a drink. His brother stands there staring out thru the tiny glad window on the door.
“Man I’ve never heard one guy talk so much. He just won’t shut up will him?”
Dan smacks his brother across the shoulder.
“Ouch! What was that for?”
“Be a little bit more respectful bro. we are in a church for crying out loud. He is giving a sermon.”
Chris smacks his brother across his shoulder in return.
“I know that you dummy. I’m just saying that the man can go and on. He’s been preaching that sermon for almost an hour and a half. It’s already twelve fifteen. Wasn’t we supposed to be out of church fifteen minutes ago?”
Dan pulls out his phone and looks at the time.
“Yes we were, but we just have to deal with it being a little late.”
“A little late? Dude, its fifteen minutes late already.”
“Well we can’t help how long he takes his sermon. We’ll just have to be late for the dinner.”
“I don’t think mom is going to like the fact that we are going to be late.”
Dan shakes his head.
“She’ll understand that we are in church.”
At that moment Dan’s phone begins to vibrate.
“Speak of the devil. Hello?”
Dan listens for a moment as the person on the other end begins to speak. His facial expression quickly turns from happiness to disbelief.
“When?”
Pauses for a moment.
“Okay. Chris and I are on our way."
Dan hangs up the phone.
“What is it bro?”
“We have to go! There’s been an accident.”
“What happened?”
“Just grab your stuff and let’s go. I’ll meet you outside.”
Chris returns inside the church hall and grabs his belongings. The two meet outside where Dan is already in the car. Chris enters inside.
“Dude, what happened?”
“It’s Madyson. She’s been in an accident. It looks bad.”
With those final words the two drives down the road and head for wherever it is they are destined to go.
Fade...to...
One ought never to turn ones back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half. Never run away from anything. Never! ~Winston Churchill
