~Alice, Donnie and the Towel Rack~
The 5th Annual Mustard Convention was in Denver this year. And it was a success (as expected) for the OWL IS NIGHT Chunky Mustard. The investors were all over Alice Knight and her Mustard. A success indeed. Alice was feeling good. She texted some of her friends for a hang out.
“Sorry Alice. Had too much spaghetti. Going to be on the toilet for the night.” - Mildred Watson (Highschool friend)
“Can’t do Alice. Had wayyyy too much lasagna. You know what that means.” - Gary Jones (Former Co-Worker)
“No. Ravioli. Diarrhea. Sorry.” - Val Kilmer (Acclaimed actor)
What about Donnie Harris? He was in Denver for an event. They shared some recent banter. Why not?
“Sure? I’m at the gym for the next few hours. Stop in if you want…”
The gym? That wasn’t in the plan. But she needed to do something. So she agreed. Unprepared, she purchased a tank top and yoga pants at the local Denver Walmart heading to the gym. Spent a little more than planned.
She changed. And entered the packed gym looking for Donnie Harris. There he was. Doing weight reps. Smile-less. She approached him.
“Hey Donnie! Need a spotter? I SPOT a mirror. I SPOT a treadmill. I SPOT a towel holder…”
Alice giggles through the awkward silence. Donnie stops for a second to look at Alice before continuing.
And the confusion on his face spoke volumes as he looked up at her, laid on the bench as he just held the 200 pounds' worth of plate aloft over his chest. For whatever reason, it seemed like Alice was really laying it on thick, like how he would like mustard on a deli meat hoagie.
Well, now he was craving that.
"Hello, Alice, yes I would love a spotter. It would mean I can get a few more reps in with a bit more weight for the next set. I will have a plane to catch in another day or so. Gotta head to Fargo, put SYNN in her place. She's always trying to steal a little bit of spotlight from me, can't figure out why."
Donnie finishes his last rep and sits up, giving himself a moment to stretch out, keeping the muscle as loose as he could, trying to maintain that form he has been keeping up with since day one in OCW red (as opposed to EPW, formerly known as OCW blue). After all, being the most improved wrestler from last summer and a former double champion has its expectations.
Alice nodded. Trying to remember everything he said to her as she was a distracted a little bit by that towel rack.
"SYNN can bring it in the ring. She was an OCW Champion. So watch out.. But it appears you are preparing yourself for anything that may or may not happen... so that's cool too."
Alice walks around behind Donnie, eyes still glaring at the towel rack and waits Donnie to start.
"So EPW is OCW .. blue? I heard good things about OCW... blue? I haven't heard a lot about EPW thought. Is it brand new?"
Alice looks down at Donnie as he begins lifting.
"Well, it was using the OCW name, as Outcast Championship Wrestling, and the primary color was blue, as opposed to OCW, Online Championship Wrestling: blue and red. EPW is nice and clean with the black and white with red highlight."
Donnie laid down and got his grip on the bar. As Alice watched him, Donnie tried not to take his focus off the bar too much. He also forgot to add a couple more 45-lb plates, but it was alright; he was bench-pressing his own body weight practically, if one included the weight of the bar.
"I don't doubt SYNN's capacity for violence. In fact, I've encouraged it. She's a great opponent and I don't doubt that she'll keep me on my toes, but damn, is it ever isolating. I just have to keep my shot at EPW's world title. Haven't had a shot at that for a good while now: at least a couple months, give or take a week or two."
"If you beat SYNN in Fargo do you get a shot at the top prize? That must be exciting for you. Who is EPW Blue's current Champion? And how does one make a rack to hold that many towels...?"
Alice catches her self starring again at the towel rack. She looks away and back down at Donnie.
"What I mean is if you get your shot at the EPW Champion? Will this be your first run with the belt?"
"Yeah, could have been world champ myself but couldn't pull the trigger; Clyde Newton has it now. The CEO brought him in to be champ; wasn't expecting her to hire two basic bitches to have pat her ass. She basically has two handpicked champions at her beck and call, and I can't wait to rip the foundation apart, brick by brick."
Donnie catches Alice break concentration every so often, wonder what she was looking at. He shrugs to himself as he holds the bar up, finishing the 15 methodically slow reps with relative ease and slight discomfort; yeah, it needed more weight, he thinks to himself as he sits up to look at her.
He then realizes that she was staring at a towel rack that was, well, quite overloaded.
"I don't want to know why there are that many towels, and I'm not going to find out. I don't need more of a reason to shower than I already do. Okay, that's a lie, but I don't want to have that shower because I'm checking towels in a gym."
Alice nods in agreement.
"It's like a mountain of towels and the rack isn't even budging. So confusing. Is there no clean up crew here and... I wonder if they sell those racks here?"
Alice looks back at Donnie.
"Nothing wrong with over showering. It's why GOD made soap for humanity. But for real. Good luck with SYNN and your eventual title match and hopefully win. Sounds like EPW is a strong company. Maybe a shady owner by the sounds of it. But it will be interesting to see shoe she deals with you when you are the top dog and champion there."
"It's simple: no choice but to respect what I'm throwing down."
Donnie gets to his feet and stretches up and back, his pectoral muscles flexing and straining as his arms are thrown back against the resistance in his shoulders. He groans as he feels the muscle tighten from the exercise, slowly returning to a more comfortable standing position before grabbing those two 45-lb plates.
"She has essentially owned the place since day one, and that's fine by me."
Donnie places the plates on one at a time, dividing his attention between Alice and the bar.
"She has also seen my body of work and, as far as I know, she has shown me the same respect as Marcus has, maybe more so since I've been in basically every card without fail and with some form of contribution. I don't hold back, and I've yet to get really hurt, so, until that time, I'm doing exactly what I said I'll do, and that's fight."
Alice follows suite with Donnie and stretches down to touch her toes but her bum bumps into a weight plate startling her. She decides to just stand still.
"Well a loyal hard worker is hard to come by. I'm sure she respects you for that despite your disagreements. She knows what you have to offer. Maybe she is threaten by you. You appear to come off strong willed and aggressively to learn more and take on all challenges. That can intimidator some people."
She stretches her arms.
"I see a strong future for you as long as keep your head level and yeah... don't get injured. But even if that does happen. It might make your will to comeback stronger. Not to jinx you or anything.."
"I have been in combat sports for a very long time, don't you worry. My only injuries are caused by what's in my brain, and it can be a dark place. Otherwise, I am here to fight and win."
Donnie takes a quick glance at Alice's bum, since it rattled the plates on the bar, having a small laugh.
"You should call that a compliment, y'know. Even the metal knows you're packing some decent heat down there."
He lays back down and grips the bar, exhaling sharply as he heaves the bar off the struts, bringing the bar down nice and slow with a deep breath in, exhaling as he pushes it back up again; taking a deep breath in, Donnie exhales now as he lowers the bar, inhaling sharply as he lifts the weight up.
"It takes a lot to leave me banged up; you can look up my match at And Justice For Brawl. It was my first world title match... ever."
"I've only had two OCW ... red... Championship shots on my life. So I know how hard they are to get. And how amazing it is to win, hearting breaking to lose and the itch want to do it again."
Alice now watched Donnie through the large gyms mirror reflection.
"Was this during OCW blue's era? Who was the champion you were against?"
"Yes it was during the blue era, and it was against a guy named BRADDOCK: big old beefcakey guy out of England. We had ourselves a deathmatch, all things considered. I came up short, but I didn't leave anything behind. He won, and I've been digging in ever since, not giving myself a moment to truly relax. I'm always scrambling to get back to that spot, back to my #1 contender's spot."
Donnie forces the bar back onto the struts with a grunt, catching his breath for a moment before sitting up, looking back to Alice. He picks up a towel (of his own) and wipes his face.
"I technically never lost it, so it has been a matter of reminding everyone why it's still mine."
He looks to Alice and pats a space next to him; standing there had to have been exhausting.
"I've done enough talking, I think. Your turn to get some words in, edge-wise. Are you looking to get back into the title picture in OCW?"
"I think everyone WANTS to be in the OCW Championship title picture. And there lies the problem. As EVERYONE is really-really-really-really..."
Alice counts how many 'reallys' she's said before continuing.
"...really good. Not to say my era of OCW stars were the shits or anything. I earned my shot and win for the OCW title. Just ... really-really-really..."
Alice counts again.
"...really hard to get another shot. The only reason I got a second title shot was because The Big Bifford was giving out challenges when he was champion. I was offered. I accepted. And I failed. But I guess that's where OCW Survivor Season 3 gets interesting. Winner gets the belt. But again... everyone in current OCW, yourself included, is top tier talent. So to answer your question... I doubt I will be the champion again. But it's nice to think about... it's really nice to picture it. Really.. really... really..."
Alice begins counting her fingers again.
Donnie takes her hands and shakes his head.
"No one, and I mean no one, is allowed to count themselves out, whether literally or figuratively, when they're around me. Don't ask me why. It's just how things should be. And you're still top tier talent, Alice. You're still here, aren't you? So stop selling your situation short. Pretty lady like you putting us knuckleheads on notice? It's gold."
"I appreciate the kind words. But it is really, really... really doubt-HOOT-ful..."
Alice giggles at her forced placement of a HOOT pun.
"But no fault of my own. I do want to make my next run in OCW a strong one. But I guess my heart hasn't been 100% in the business like it was when i starved for the OCW Championship back when I wont it. But I still have a to offer when my head is in the game. Just need to get to that point. I just meant when I see the heart if a lot of OCW stars eyes. I see it in your eyes. The hunger to be and STAY on top. Like the quote from one of the ROCKY movies."
Alice makes her mouth crooked and attempts a Sylvester Stallone impression.
"Ehhh, you. You have the edge. You have, ehhh, the eye of the tiger."
She fixes her mouth and jaw with her hand for some reason.
"You have that edge. The eye of the tiger... or was it eye of the wildebeest? No. I'm pretty sure it's tiger. Been a long time since I've watched them..."
"You were right the first time. And it was Carl Weathers as Apollo who said that."
Donnie smirks a bit.
"Hey, random idea. You're saying that you're struggling with getting that itch to come back, getting the motivation to get things going again and get your head in the game; I'd be honored if you came to the ring with me. You wouldn't be a valet or anything, but I could always use an extra pair of eyes to watch my ass if shit goes sideways. It might work like how I can't watch most sports without wanting to get back into them, or into them at all."
Alice ponders the idea for a second and smirks. She flexes her arm and puts out her hand in front of Donnie, ready for a handshake.
"I'll watch your back and you watch mine? I like it. Wow. This is like the scene also with Apollo Weathers and Arnold Schwarzen-hamburger in the the old Predator film."
Alice does a loud and awfully thick Austrian accent now. Attracting eyes from others in the GYM.
"AGHHHH! GET TO CHOPPAHHHH!!"
Alice noticing the eyes on her. She awkwardly fixes her jaw again with her other hand.
"I'm in..."
Alice awaits Donnie to shake his hand.
Donnie doesn't hesitate, unmoved by her butchery of the Austrian accent, to take her hand and shake it, his grip firm.
"Let's get us both to OCW championship contention, if you think you can handle having me do all the work for you."
