Round one is in the books.
OCW’s Margarita Mix lethal lottery tag team tournament has seen thirty two hungry competitors - eh, maybe thirty one - come together, put their trust in complete strangers, and fight with the possibility of an OCW Tag Team Championship opportunity at stake. If somehow you manage to fight through the rest of the field without building that magical team chemistry, you can face your partner one on one with a singles championship opportunity on the line. Chris Madison and Brett Daniels are showing to be a perfect example of what this tournament can bring together. Two men, complete strangers, from different walks of life, who seemingly, together, have the tools to win the entire tournament - or at least that’s what the bookmakers say.
Outside of the OCW Studio, Chris Madison is seen walking through the parking lot immediately after his team’s win over Giovanni Santana and Lily Lopez. With a gym bag slung over his shoulder, the wily veteran gingerly approaches a Ford F-150 Raptor that’s running. He dipped his head towards his shoulder and pulled the bag over his head, tossing it over the side, into the bed of the pickup truck. He took one step back and the passenger side door swung open. Frankie Morrison, his longtime manager stepped out with a huge smile on his face.
“Congrats,” he said while reaching out with his arm, holding a cigar in his hand. “Cohiba Esplendido.”
Madison grabbed the cigar from his manager while trying to hold back the grin on his face. “It’s just round one though,” he stated. “Nothin’ to celebrate yet.”
“You and Brett Daniels keep performing like that, this tournament is going to be yours for the taking. Perhaps another championship to add to the collection,” Morrison declared.
That simple statement resonated with Madison. After seeing the two in action, it was plain to see that Chris Madison and Brett Daniels were possibly the team to beat! But with one round in the books, the focus solely shifts to the next task at hand. Bianca McBride and Bradley Carrington. Another team believed to be one of the front runners of this tournament. Chris reached over the side of the truck bed with both hands and lifted up a cooler, placing it down on the pavement at his feet. He reaches in and sifts through the large chunks of ice to pull out a can of beer.
“This one's for you Giovonni,” he announces before cracking open the aluminum can and tipping it towards the camera. “Tonight you saw both ends of the spectrum with a lethal lottery tag team tournament. Sometimes you get lucky, you get a partner that you instantly just click with and the fact it’s your first time pairin’ up is instantly forgotten. Other times, you get a partner that you’re so out of sync with it’s hard to watch. Giovanni Santana was dealt a bad hand. Lily Lopez came to that ring like a stay at home mom who had one too many mimosas at brunch with her girlfriends. She let loose… A little too loose. And it cost you any chance you had at beatin’ Brett and I. Southern Mayhem moves on to round two!”
Madison presses the beer can against his lips and takes a swig before wiping the remnants from his lips with his forearm. “I don’t expect that lapse in mental fortitude from any of the other teams movin’ forward. Especially our next opponents, Bianca McBride and Bradley Carrington,” he declared. “Bianca and Bradley had themselves a good night. Talia Areano proved to be a challenge, but unfortunately her partner, Iraq Nid, couldn’t handle the heat he brought upon himself. Just like Brett and I are expectin’ a completely different match, Bianca and Bradley, you should be too! I don’t need to speak for Brett, but I know he’s just as invested in this tournament as I am. For me, it’s OCW Tag Team Champions or bust.”
Madison’s trademark stoic look proved that he meant that last statement. But that’s him in a nutshell. When he commits to something, he isn’t satisfied until reaching his goals. He fights, and fights, and fights some more until there’s nothing standing in his way. He reached up with his left hand, still holding the beer can with his right, and scratched at the back of his head.
“Now I know anyone can stand here in front of a camera and profess the same exact sentiment. We’re all world traveled. We all have had success in different promotions throughout our careers. At the end of the day it’s goin’ to simply come down to will, who wants it the most. Bianca, Bradley, you guys were impressive. But at the end of your match, a glaring weakness was exposed. Despite bein’ able to handily put away your opponents, it’s apparent that you two aren’t on the same page,” Madison suggested before chugging the rest of his beer. He tossed the empty can in the bed of the truck like a second baseman tossing a baseball to kickstart a double play. “Bradley put Talia in his version of a triangle choke and in moments, she was asleep. Instead of celebratin’ the first round victory together, Bianca checked on Talia while Bradley shuffled around ringside like a buffoon, tryin’ to sell his book to an audience who’s not amused by his egotistical antics. That lack of cohesiveness is goin’ to be your downfall. Somehow, someway, the two of you better figure out how to get on the same page…”
Madison paused for a moment, letting the pun sink in.
“Brett and I, we leave little room for error. To beat us, you’re goin’ to have to have the match of your careers. A flawless performance. Now do me a favor, look at each other. Look at your partner and tell me that either of the two of you fully trust the other to hold up their end of the bargain. Tell me that you know that you have nothin’ to worry about because, together, you two are the best TAG TEAM in this tournament,” he hesitates as if he was waiting for a response. “You can’t… Just like you can’t win this match! It’s the end of the road and there’s nothin’ you can do about it except watch the opportunity slip through your fingertips. At least it’ll make for an excitin’ new chapter in Bradley’s book. Might even lead to a sale or two.”

[Brett Daniels is shown sitting in his private office at the last chance lanes dressed in a Daniels wrestling academy t shirt, Jeans cowboy boots with his hat sitting on top of his head. He looks up from a stack of papers on his desk and begins speaking]
Brett Daniels: Hello Brett Daniels friendly redneck superman again and welcome to week two of what I'm affectionately calling the Brett Daniels resurrection tour.
[Reaches into a mini fridge next to the desk and pulls out a cold bottle of beer, opens it on the corner of the desk and takes a swig out of it before speaking again]
What is being resurrected? A career that a lot of folks including me thought was on the downswing. But as I showed last week maybe just maybe this old outlaw has a few more bullets left in his gun. But I can't take all the credit for the victory as I gotta raise a toast to my partner Chris Madison so here's to ya brother!
[Raises his beer bottle in the air]
Now they've taken to calling us Southern mayhem but what they need to be calling us is Risky business. Because that's what we are to anyone who faces us in this mix!
Now I know we've been named the team to beat and the odds on favorites to win this whole shit a caboodle. Some say that's bold talk but once again we bold people and we do bold things. So if you're with us raise your adult beverage in the air and be counted and if you aren't well here's to you!
[Gives the camera the bird]
Now that the pleasantries are out of the way let's talk about our opponents this round Bianca McBride and Bradley Carrington. I saw your match and was impressed. Well by Bianca anyway as I don't know what the hell he was doing. All I do know is the time for selling gimmicks is before or after the match not during it. You do that against either one of us and all I know you best hope that book magically becomes a sandwich because you're definitely going to be eating it!
Bianca McBride like I said you impressed the hell out of me but if you think you are getting by us then you best be ready to put in a hell of shift because me and Madison have tunnel vision and we ain't stoppin until we have those tag team titles wrapped around our waists and then we kick off a celebration that's gonna make project x look like frat kegger!
[Takes another long drink from his bottle]
Don't get me wrong I ain't you aren't tough as you definitely not afraid of a fight and most certainly can hold your own but us we're different kind of breed as we believe in It ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. And you can tell we're still standing but the question now is will you be? I guess we're about ready to find out are we?
[Finishes his beer and gives the bottle a toss behind him as he walks off]

Bradley Carrington is watching the finish to his previous match on his tv.
Carrington: Perfect form!
He latches the Cornell Clutch onto his opponent and watches her struggle in vain.
Carrington: That is a textbook triangle choke. You see what I did there? It’s funny because I’m a college professor.
He chuckles to himself, and turns to the empty spot on the couch next to him. The smile on his face fades a bit.
Carrington: Right, the house is empty.
Bradley isn’t used to being alone. Fortunately he doesn’t have to be, he pays an assistant to be his friend.
Carrington: Hey Siri, call Siri.
*ring ring*
Siri: Hello Mr Carrington.
Carrington: Siri I need you to review some film with me. Also if you could bring some licorice that would be great.
Siri: Sure thing Mr Carrington.
Bradley hangs up and his phone almost immediately starts ringing. It’s Autumn again, she still doesn’t know Bradley is in Florida. As far as she knows he’s away on business which is technically true. Even if it’s the wrestling business and not the family business. Bradley waits for the phone to stop ringing, he listens to the voicemail Autumn leaves.
Autumn: Hey, I’m still trying to get a hold of you to make sure you aren’t in jail or, you know, dead or anything like that. I worry, the way you drive that Corvette. Anyway, call or text me when you get a chance.
Bradley sits in silence for a moment before the silence is broken by Siri entering the house.
Siri: Hey Mr Carrington, I brought the licorice you asked for. A classic movie snack, excellent choice sir.
Bradley sits up a bit and snaps out of his thoughts
Carrington: Thank you Siri. Do you have any updates on that side project?
Siri: Yes sir, there’s still no evidence that the Malvado brothers are the same person, but I still have not seen them in the same place at the same time.
Bradley nods but doesn't say anything. Deep down he knows that there’s only one Malvado swapping masks to give himself more chances to win matches. He’s never wrong about things like this. He knew all along that Mrs Doubtfire was played by Robin Williams.
Siri: Is something on your mind Mr Carrington?
Carrington: Not really, just um, thinking about the tournament.
Siri: You can vent if you want sir. Listening to things like that is part of what you pay me for.
Carrington: It’s just… that…
Bradley can’t remember who his opponents are. He’s so disinterested in them personally.
Carrington: Who am I fighting again?
Even Siri has to check her notes
Siri: Brett Daniels and Chris Madison.
Carrington: Right, Brett and whoever. They’re beneath me. It’s a waste of my god given ability, and my work ethic and intellect. I decided to return to wrestling because I missed entertaining people, I want to give them a show but these bums aren’t enough of a challenge. The show is going to end just as it’s getting going just like the first round. I bet I won’t even have to tag in my partner…
Carrington: Anyway, what are these guys? A cowboy and a long islander, right? They’re a dime a dozen. You know how many cow punchers there have been in wrestling? I don’t because there have been so many.
Bradley stands up as he rants.
Carrington: I’m a star, I’m practically royalty in the wrestling world. And this is the best they have to offer? I came out of semi retirement for these chumps? I wasn’t even told this company was back up and running by the way! I just happened to know someone who told me it was.
Siri stands up and puts a hand on Bradley’s shoulder.
Siri: Mr Carrington, perhaps you are the real show. The excitement for the fans won’t come from the challenge because there won’t be one. The entertainment will come from the spectacle that is Bradley Carrington. They will marvel at the sheer magnificence in front of them.
Bradley immediately perks up.
Carrington: You’re right! I’m a gift to these people. My presence alone will change their lives! And after my win I can have an autograph signing for anyone who buys my book!
Siri: That’s the spirit! That’s the Bradley Carrington I know!
Carrington: Now let’s review this film.
They sit back down and Bradley plays the video of him winning the round one match. He makes the same joke about the textbook triangle joke, Siri thinks it’s hilarious.
Carrington: Anyway that’s all I needed you here for. But I guess since we have a movie snack, we could watch an actual movie.
Siri smiles.
Siri: Yeah, that actually sounds nice.
They sit on the couch and turn on one of Bradley’s favorite movies: American Beauty. A movie almost as douchy as he is.

The scene opens up to Bianca sitting on a steel chair in the middle of the ring. The arena was empty. Above Bianca’s left eye, she had it bandaged. She leaned back in her chair before speaking into the microphone.
“Before I start. I just want to say, Fuck Iraq Nid. He got what he deserved. Getting beat down by a bunch of women with their purses had me rolling. That was great but enough of that. That’s in the past. Right now it’s time to focus on what’s ahead and that’s the next round. Carrington and I will be taking on Brett Daniels and Chris Madison. Here’s the thing, while it might seem that my tag partner and I weren’t on the same page at the start, it showed through the match that Bradley and I can work together and get the job done. If he wants to be the team captain, fine, whatever. It doesn’t bother me one bit. I showed that I can work with him and we can get the win. That’s all that matters in the end right? We won and we put every other team on notice that the two of us are nothing to fuck with.”
“I’m sure you can see the bandage here over my left eye. It was a parting gift from Slade Castle. Boy did he fuck me up but don’t let that make you think this busted eyebrow will put you two in a more favorable position. Let me get this outta the way. While you two are great wrestlers, and I would never take away the fact you two are amazing talents. Your victory is a hollow one. The only reason you two won, was the fact that Lily Lopez went out there drunk off her stupid bitch ass and fucked her partner over. Can you two really say that you gave it your all? No. You two haven’t proven anything, while Bradley and I have. I held my own and so did Bradley.”
“My tag partner and I come from two different worlds yet we are the ones who came out on top. We had our hands raised in victory. It wasn’t handed to us. We earned it. Talia Areano pushed me to become better and each time I step into that ring, in front of that crowd. I only become better, I learn and adapt. I have so much riding on my shoulders and to prove. The name McBride carries a lot of weight. Being a third generation wrestler it’s up to me to keep it going in this business. Wrestling is my life. It’s not just some career, It’s my everything. There are a lot of so-called wrestlers who are here just for the money or the fame or being on TV.”
Bianca shakes her head before standing up from the steel chair.
“Not me. I’m here for three reasons. To carry my family’s name, To show the fans what great wrestling is and to push myself to the limit. While I do feel that Brett and Chris were handed a win. That doesn’t mean I don’t respect their skills in the ring. My partner and I will be making sure this match won’t be easy for them. They will have to give it their all.”
“This business tends to show people who are here for the right reasons and who can cut it. Everyone in this match will have to show the world. It’s never easy but if it was. Anyone would be a top talent but that’s not the case. I have to earn the right to be called a top person. It’s one of the reasons I signed up for this match. It’s a test, a test I can fail at any time but I’ll be damned if I let myself stop here”
“There is a person in The Mix I want to face because if anyone had the label of a top talent, it’s her. I’m sorry to tell you Brett and Chris you can beat me bloody raw and I will get back up and fight you till I can’t move anymore, you will have to drain me of blood. Is that something you can do Brett and Chris? Will you do whatever it takes to win? If so, you two haven’t proven it yet to me. You two better give it your all, the moment you show a hint of weakness. I will use that and because of it. You will lose and my partner and I will move on to the next round. Like I said, there is a wrestler in this Mix I have to face. Come Hell or high water. I’m moving on to the next round. I’ll drag my partner’s dead body to the next round if I have to. Nothing's going to stop me. That, my friends, is something you can bet on.”
