What’s up, friends! What? We’re not friends? Why not?
I say we are. Who cares what people on twitter say about ole Leo...I’m a great guy!
Sure, I might get dates wrong from time to time and, yea, I misspell stuff on twitter a lot. But my heart is in the right place.
And, speaking of my heart...boy oh boy was it shaking when The People’s GOAT, James Raven made his debut this past Sunday at House of Cards, confronting The Incredible One.
A truly INCREDIBLE moment. Pun mayyybe intended.
So, it left me thinking...what were some other great returns/debuts? Well, I’ve compiled a list of five that stick out in my mind...let’s get into it!
5) The Return of Brianna Casablancas
Go ahead, laugh all you want. Brianna is an easy target for some of OCW’s diehard fans. But let’s not discredit the contributions Casablancas made for OCW when it returned after a near decade hiatus. A promotion people had forgotten about...Brianna took a flier and joined. Her feud with The Incredible One helped re-establish OCW as a force for years to come. Sadly, Brianna would get run out of the promotion by the likes of Scott Syren and Lurrr. It was thought she’d never return. BUT, five years later, Brianna showed up, shocking the pro wrestling world and joining the team of Mario Maurako, Paul Paras, and Silver Cyanide to take on the team of Aidan Collins, James Raven, Roach, and The Big Bifford at Death March. It was a truly unexpected, tremendous moment that I’ll never forget. Will we see Brianna back in OCW again? It’s doubtful. But never say never.
4) Roach tries to MURDER Alice Knight
Roach was another member of the 2014 crew that helped resurrect the previously defunct federation. His biggest nemesis was...Alice Knight. Roach and Alice battled it out in Jurassic Park land within Universal Studios Orlando. Roach was foiled by Alice when she threw ants into his eyes and rolled him up for the pin. Roach vanished shortly after. Fast forward 4 years later and Alice Knight, looking to open a pet shop in Nebraska, visited what she thought was a local pet store. Instead, it was an abandoned building filled with pests and, her former nemesis, ROACH. Roach jumped Alice and laid her out...letting Alice and OCW know that he was back. A shocking and devastating moment.
3) The Debut of an eMpire
Say what you want about these guys, but they stepped into OCW and put the promotion on notice. The leader of the group, Mike Best made a shocking appearance during the main event of Social Justice, playing mind games with former rival, Paul Paras. Paras would go on to win...but his victory was short lived when Mike Best and the rest of his eMpire treated Paras to a beat down he wouldn’t soon forget. The eMpire would go on to tear through OCW, increasing the threat level within the promotion to...I dunno, like eleven or something. Mike Best, a name that rarely ventures outside of his home promotion, showing up in OCW was absolutely a ‘holy shit’ moment.
2) Scorpion Returns
How apropos that Scorpion makes this list during an era where his son, Xavier Lux, is dominating the modern day OCW. Back in 2000, Scorpion faced SiLVeRFReaK for the OCW Championship. SiLVeRFReaK won in controversial fashion. In fact, the result was so heavily disputed that Scorpion left the promotion, vowing to never return. Well, we know how that goes in this profession. A few months later, Scorpion would make his shocking return to OCW. He would go on to face Cash Money for the OCW Championship. Scorpion went on to make short work of Cash Money, claiming the OCW Championship and moving on from the SiLVeRFReaK debacle. I can still remember when Scorpion appeared...I literally jumped out of my seat. Unbelievable moment.
1) Zybala is the Masked Man
Of COURSE the top spot has to belong to OCW’s most spontaneous, creative, unpredictable wrestler. For months, The Aptitude had been pulverizing the OCW roster. That is, until a masked man appeared and began to play mind games with CJ O’Donnell, The Incredible One, and Matt Meyhu. Annoyed, The Aptitude tried everything to learn the identity of this masked person...but, to no avail. Matt Meyhu would go on to win the OCW Title at Stainless Steel Ride...and, promptly after his match, The Masked Man would appear, once again, making Meyhu and The Aptitude’s life a living hell. He SUPERKICKED the new OCW Champion before removing the mask to reveal himself as the one, the only – Mike Zybala! Zybala has been an OCW fixture ever since...and, I truly don’t know where this place would be without him. One of the all time greats giving this historic federation its most memorable debut.
Will the return/debut of James Raven climb into this Top 5? It’s possible.
One thing I know for sure, James Raven and The Incredible One will, without a doubt, be a match for the ages at Under the Lights. It’s worth the price of the PPV alone.
I cannot WAIT until September 6th.
Anyway, until next time...I’m Leo and I’m signing OUT.
