Resting comfortably on a worn out leather couch, Brim has his feet propped up on a makeshift table. Across from him, set-up on the wall is a 45” flat screen television which appears to be playing Xavier Lux's final match in GCWA. The Crowning Achievement Match for those who are clueless. His eyes are bloodshot red and the bags under them suggest that he hasn’t had a decent night of sleep in a long while. He watches on as Lux looks to take Betsy Granger over the top rope with a headscissor, however as the two begin to descend to the floor, Shawn Warstein cracks Lux with a steel chair. This causes Brim to flinch a bit.
“Shit!”
Brim continues to intently watch on when Lux is immediately pinned after two high impact moves. After Minos’ announcement, something that Hood points out catches Brim’s attention.
“Tumor? Hmm so Superman isn’t invincible after all..”
He is caught by surprise when a knock comes at his door. Almost in a trance-like state, he rubs his eyes before getting to his feet and moving towards his door. Taking his sweet precious time, Brim makes it to the door and opens it. Seeing who it is, Brim steps back and lets them inside.
“Didn't expect to see you guys coming through here so late..”
A younger guy, looking to be in his mid twenties stands The woman, appearing to be in her early twenties, next to him has her hair pulled into a ponytail. They both are wearing cargo pants with dark colored shirts. The guy gives off a nervous chuckle.
“Yea man, y'know dat we want to go out for a lil..” He winks at Brim. “late night walk”"
Brim rubs his face while rolling his eyes at the same time.
“I mean… I get where you're coming from but you know I can’t let you kids out this late at night.”
“C’mon man..” The guy pleads. “I promise that we’re not going far.”
“Look lil homie, as much as I wanna let y’all out. It’s just too risky. In the daylight, everyone can see who's coming and going but at night.. We’re sitting ducks, so in order to keep the group safe. No one leaves after sundown.” Brim shrugs his shoulders. “Them’s the rules and honestly, I don’t think I could take anything happening to you two. Shit would eat away at my conscious and all that.”
Brim uses spirit fingers, like hand gestures to stress his point. The guy scoffs.
“This is some bullshit bro..”
“Hmph. Tell me about it.” Brim nonchalantly says.
“So what are we supposed to do?” The guy desperately asks. “I’m so sick of being stuck down here man. I haven’t had any daylight in at least, I know..” He does some quick math in his head. “I’d say a good year.”
Brim shrugs. “Like I said, I understand but there’s not much more that I can do. The council placed me in charge of the security detail. I mean if it’s not obvious to ya, that's the main reason why my room is by the main entrance. So I can protect us and be the first line of defense against anyone who slips up and finds this place. Also it’s to make sure that kids like you two don’t go off and get yourselves hurt or something.”
The guy is upset but for the female, something else catches her attention. Leaving the two men to continue talking by the door, she spots Brim’s OCW Savage Championship that rests on a counter that’s positioned behind the couch that Brim was sitting on. She admires it’s beauty, from the platinum backdrop, all the way to the maroon templates that bring out the glory of the championship. She looks back at both men who are now paying full attention to her.
“Is this a real championship title?”
Brim nods in response.
“It’s a magnificent piece of work.”
Brim shrugs. “I guess.”
“Do you mind if I touch it?”
Brim appears confused. “Uhmm.. Yeah..”
She moves in closer to the title, taking her right hand and running it along the Roman Gladiator design. She seems awestruck by the title, picking the title up, realizing that it carries more weight than she expected.
“Oh shit! This is a real belt, I thought that you were bullshitting at first but this thing is immaculate!” She looks closely at the letters that reside on the title, reading them aloud. “OCW Savage Champion.. OCW? I’ve never heard of this place, so.. Are you like a wrestler?”
“I wouldn’t be in possession of that belt if I wasn’t.”
She rolls her eyes.
“Awe so you’se a big rude motherfucka, huh?”
“I don’t consider myself rude, just straight forward.”
“So I guess that’s why you got that wrestling shit on loud as fuck?”
“Yeah, I was scouting my opponent before you guys came and knocked on the door.”
“Do you mind if we join you?” She questions.
Brim shrugs again. “I guess..”
The guy appears upset. “C’mon bae, let’s go back to the room.”
“Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve watched some actual wrestling? Besides, I’ve never heard of OCW before, I want to see what it’s about.”
“You.. you like wrestling?” He asks.
She plops down on the couch and begins to watch the match that is already in progress.
“I haven’t watched wrestling in years, maybe since I was a little girl. But before my parents died, they would take me to all of the local shows. Then I moved in with my aunt and uncle, who were Jesus freaks, banned me from all t.v. or any form of entertainment for that matter.”
“Wow, I never knew that.” Her boyfriend states, taking a seat to her left.
Brim appears irritated but goes and takes a seat to her right. When he does, his size causes them to shift over, almost squeezing the guy against the arm of the couch.
“So, since when have women been allowed to compete against guys?”
“A good while now..”
“Pretty cool!”
“Why t’fuck is there a guy rolling towards the ring?” The guy asks with a deadpan look on his face.
Brim places his hand over his face. “I’m still trying to figure that one out.”
“So what does he actually do?”
“Believe it or not, he wrestles.”
There’s an uncomfortable silence before a shared burst of laughter. With tears in her eyes, she asks a question.
“Please tell me that you’re not going against this guy?”
“Yeah, Ben.. All you would have to do is sit on him and his wheels would probably go flat.”
The joke falls flat, Brim totally ignoring him.
“So which one of these guys are you facing, it’s not the chick is it?”
“Naw.. You see the bald guy that’s getting jumped with the old guy? That’s who I’m facing.”
“Ohhh..” They both say collectively.
They continue watching as chaos soon ensues. Bodies are everywhere and fists are flying. Suddenly, the scene shifts to Lord Allton getting forcefully shoved down the ramp in his wheelchair.
“Damn.. That’s fucked up..”
There’s another shared laughter amongst the three. More people join in on the brawl as the three continue to watch everything unfold.
“What t’fuck is going on?”
“You had to be there to understand.”
“Holy fuck, that guy is bigger than you!”
“He’s a clever son of a bitch though.”
The three watch as the action continues to get hot and heavy, finally seeing the original four competitors making the climb towards the crown. The room is covered in silence, the whole pin drop shindig comes across your mind. Lux gets slammed face first into the steel and this garners a smile from Brim. The fight goes on, up top and down below, everyone looking for their own advantage. Suddenly, the silence of the room is broken when the girl screams loudly after witnessing Granger, Outcast and Lux fall from the structure. Both men look over to her.
“I’m sorry guys.”
They both shake their heads, turning their focus back towards the match when she screams again when Warstein and TLS go flying off too. They ignore her this time, Brim more focused on Lux being able to save himself from a horrible fall.
“Lucky motherfucka..”
Lux manages to climb the platform and is able to retrieve the silver crown. Raising it in the air victoriously, Lux then makes his way down the side of the platform and to the floor. He poses on the stage one more time for the crowd and then it happens. Lux, drops to his knees and fall face forward to the stage, the crown rolling away.
“What t’fuck was that?” The guy asked, looking completely lost for words.
“That my friend was GCWA. One of the last Inferno shows that they put on at the beginning of the year.”
“So you have to fight the guy who won the match and passed out afterwards?”
“Hell yeah.. And after watching this match, I know now that the man with the iron fist has a weakness.”
“So, I’m wondering, is it going to be anything like this match that we just got done watching?”
Brim thinks over the question. “In a way..” He says with a bit of doubt. “There are going to be guys around the ring, plus my match is No Disqualification for the World belt, there’s no telling how many of those guys are going to try and hate me out.”
“Wait a minute.. You’re fighting for the World title?”
“Yep, my belt is on the line too.”
“So, if you lose, you leave with nothing?”
“That’s what it all boils down too, I’m the only guy in this ordeal who walks out with everything or leaves with nothing so that places me in a tough spot. I need every angle to work when it comes to this match. Lux is crafty, he’s resilient and also strong as shit. My neck still hurts from when he dropped me on my neck.”
“No way that lifted you off of your feet.”
“He’s a proven fighter in this sport, he can go anywhere and his name would hold weight. Me.. well not too much is known about me but that doesn’t give me an advantage because he has beaten me before. Plus, the way he twisted my nuts still doesn’t sit well with me. I need my get back.”
“So, you wanna twist his nuts?” The guy asks out of curiosity.
“Don’t fucking play with me like that, I’ll choke you out right here on this motherfucking couch.”
“Don’t listen to Malek, he just says the first thing that pops in his head.”
“Bri, you need to chill out.”
“But you do, Lek.”
“Either way..” Brim says interrupting them both. “The last time that we faced, it left a sour taste in my mouth. And come House of Cards, Lux and anyone else who decides to step in my way are going to feel these bombs get dropped down on em.” Brim looks at his clenched fists.
“House of Cards?”
“Yeah, that’s the name of the show.”
“Is there any way that we could watch the show or better yet, come to it?”
“Naw, that wouldn’t be a good idea. I got some bad people who still got some heat towards me and I can’t have you two getting hurt because of me. I told y’all this already.”
“He did tell us this.” Malek says in an asshole-like manner.
“But he was talking about us going outside, late at night. He didn’t say anything about not escorting us anywhere.”
“Could’ve sworn that I did.”
“Yeah Bri, I think he did say that.”
She scoffs.
“I mean, the show will probably be live streamed on YouTube so you guys could possibly watch it that way. But trust and believe.. I don’t need anymore distraction, Byson’s gone to the DMZ, thank the Lord and I just want to take this time to focus on beating the fuck out of Lux for the OCW World Championship. Like I said, I’m pretty sure that I’m going to have to keep my head on the swivel but there’s nothing and I do mean nothing that’s going to stop me from leaving with both of those titles over my shoulder. Prove to the world that I’m worth putting stock into, that I’m worthy of standing tall at the top of the mountain. And also prove that what happened at Quarantined was only the beginning of what I have in store for the future. I’m sure there are guys in the back who question my work ethic because they rarely hear from me on our weekly Piledriver show but that’s because I’ve been too locked in on taking Lux to the limit and pinning his shoulders to the mat. Hours upon hours of countless film watching, watching every punch, every kick, every underhanded tactic that this man could pull out of his bag of tricks. I need to be prepared for anything and can do without anything or anyone distracting me because if it does, they’re damn sure going to regret that they did.”
Bri and Malek both look dumbfoundedly at Brim. Brim looks back over at them.
“What was that?”
“What?”
“Yeah, did you like, go somewhere else or something?”
Brim shakes his head, rising up to his feet and heads for the door, opening it.
“Have a good night kids.”
“Shit!”
Brim continues to intently watch on when Lux is immediately pinned after two high impact moves. After Minos’ announcement, something that Hood points out catches Brim’s attention.
