OCW's doors are closed until the conclusion of House of Cards. After that...who knows what might happen. An increase in roster cap? An open spot?
It's never too early to take a look at some possibilities should an opening occur.
So, let's dive into five names that have surfaced recently as possibilities to claim an OCW roster spot.
1 - Scott Syren
Yes, his name comes up alot. And, for good reason. He's had constant negotiations with the company and remains at the top of the waiting list. What are both parties waiting on? That seems to be the primary question here. There have, obviously, been some snags in negotiations preventing the deal from being 100% done. But don't let his lack of presence fool you. Scott Syren is very much in play and is likely to appear at some point. OCW's greatest wrestler looms.
2 - Matt Meyhu
If Scott Syren is at the top of the historical OCW mountain, then it could be argued that Matt Meyhu is 1A. In fact, Meyhu defeated Syren at Death March in 2019. And, while Syren wasn't at the top of his game for that match, you can't dispel the fact that Meyhu stared the legend in the face and took him down. Meyhu was the most dominant champion in OCW history. He's claimed top-shelf gold everywhere he's competed. And, he appeared at Quarantined as a Special Ref. In doing so, he had interesting interactions with both Peter Vaughn and Xavier Lux. Meyhu is always watching OCW and, when the time is right, will probably return.
3 - Supreme Machine
Now here's an interesting one. SuMA joined OCW in 2015 and won an Oh Shit! Contract in his debut match by outlasting, amongst others, Ricky Rhodes. He would cash that Oh Shit! Contract in at Code of Silence and defeat Danny B for the Savage Championship. SuMa would go on to defend that Savage Championship against OCW Hall of Famer, Mack O'Connor at Hood Rich. SuMa never lost the Savage Championship nor did he ever get a shot at the OCW Title. SuMa has resurfaced in the pro wrestling world and looks as strong as ever. I'm told he's already had 'light' negotiations with the promotion. Could we see a SuMa return? I'd like to think so!
4 - Chelsea LeClair
Here's a strange one. LeClair was a breakout star in OCW during the 2019 run. She stepped out of Andrea Hernandez's shadow by earning a spot in the Elimination Chamber at Social Justice. She would later go on to face Andrew Logan in the finals of Manifest Destiny 2. Her run in OCW skyrocketed her career into GCWA where she would defeat Lissie Hope for the GCWA Title. Chelsea's been quiet in recent months...but I do know, for a fact, she has viewed OCWHQ several times since the doors were reopened. However, to my knowledge, there have been no talks between the two parties. That doesn't mean they can't and won't happen. I think there's a very good chance we see LeClair return to OCW at some point.
5 - Sebastian Grey
You might be asking, "who?" Grey is new to the game and has been promoting himself via Twitter. As a result, he's caught the eye of OCW. I'm told OCW and Mr. Grey have had talks. In fact, I'd go so far as to report a tryout took place very recently. OCW was impressed with what they saw. The intrigue is there and the allure of adding some more 'freshness' to the product might weigh in Grey's favor. If a spot were to open up after House of Cards, don't be surprised if Sebastian Grey gets the first call.
Honorable Mention - Shawn Warstein
I'm probably doing this just so Mr. Warstein will tell me to fuck off. A nice mark-out moment for a 40-year-old intern. But, hey...the connections are undeniable. Warstein has beef with almost everybody on the OCW roster. And, while there are no reports of any serious negotiations, I know for a fact OCW would love to have Warstein on its roster at some point. He's tailor-made for what OCW likes to produce. Will it happen? I'd like to think so. However, the timing could prevent a deal from ever being struck. Still, a name worth keeping an eye on.
Keep an eye on - James Raven
He's got a big match at another promotion coming up. After that, who knows where the G.O.A.T. will wind up. I know he continues to be on great terms with OCW. It seems like a no-brainer that OCW would do everything it could to secure Raven's signature. But, much like with Warstein, the timing just hasn't been right. Will the two ever be able to come to an agreement so Key West residents can be gifted with Mr. Raven's aesthetics on a weekly basis? I guess we'll have to wait to find out.
Wild Card - Trent Steel
WHOA! Now there's a blast from the past. Trent Steel has DEEP connections with OCW. Steel was a mainstay in ICWF...a fed which housed OCW creator, Dean, and current OCW Champion's father, Scorpion. Steel was a formidable force in GCWA during its run nearly a decade ago. Trent Steel has also dabbled in OCW at times. Steel has strong connections with Matt Meyhu from their Boardwalk days. OCW recently reached out to Trent Steel when they rediscovered his presence within the profession. I can't confirm whether or not Steel has responded. However, if/when Trent makes contact with OCW there's a strong chance the appeal of showing up is too much for the veteran to pass up.
